Truck stalled after replacing alternator

Hi
Just replaced the alternator for the second time in 82,000kms (50K miles)
Drove about 30Kms and it just died. Waited about 5 minutes and it started up right away. Drove about 1 km and stalled again. Started again, ran 1km and stalled.
I was driving at about 80 km/hr and everything died. Cranked and wouldnt start, tried again and fired right up. Got home checked all connections, batteried fully charged. Very dirty air filter...gauge showed 10% restriction.
Any ideas anyone?

Welcome.
Why did you replace the alts so often?
I see you have a 2002, but no mention yet as to which engine you have. Diesel and Gas motors will have slightly different diagnostics, and I can't help with diesels, but there are many here and in the 7.3 forum that could.

Truck Died

Yes, its a 7.3 diesel.
I replaced the alternators because they stopped charging the batteries.
The one I got last week I got under warranty at the Lordco parts store.

Have you changed out the CPS? (Crankshaft Position Sensor)? Our vehicles were recalled for that on the 7.3 PSDs. I never took mine in I just changed it myself. Took all of about 10 minutes. It is located on the lower/front of the engine. 1 - 3 wire harness and 2 - 10mm bolts. The part itself will run you about $25 to $35 depending on where you get it.

I now also keep a spare in the glove box with the tools to change it...just in case.

Good call BillyBob 69, that's what it was. Called Ford and they told me that it was a recall item and possibly they will refund the repair cost.
