dirt? thats what a filter is for silly. the intake tubes and throttle body dont have any kind of dust or dirt in them so i think the filters are doing thier job, again no offence, thats what a filter is for in the first place. so the engine doesnt suck contaminates. i must have forgotten to mention i have ducting comming from that square hole on the side of the radiator right behind the grill, i have a lid that goes over the top of this as well tho its not a 100% sealed box i think at speed (where performance counts anyway) the air rushing in to the box from the snorkel blows any kind of hot air out of the box and keeps a constant outside ambient temperature flowing through there and like i said cuz the box isnt 100% sealed it allows the air to flow..like having a window open at either end of your house...this is all just my theory so i could be wrong

Filters like KN etc do not filter as well as the OEM filters, so more dirt will get past them. They don't filter the smaller particles out. In my opinion little or no gains are not worth it.

I have 460 but what i did is took an exhaust y and two 45 elbows and cut them down. Then i stuck a big napa filter on the end of it. I don't have a heat shield. But i am certain it did not hurt performance at all and most likely helped it. I do have my tube still running to it from the grill. That pipe hase a turn on the end of it pointing towards the headlights i cut that off so it is straight. There is also a piece of rubber in between that pipe and the radiator on my truck. I took that off too. Now you can see the tube from outside the grill. My filter sits in the stock spot. I also used the first set of the rubber hoses on my truck and got rid of that plastic thing in between the hoses. My new pipes and filter flow a lot better than the stock ones. I think the stock filter for a 460 is on the small side for a stock motor. And i think even though it's pulling in more hot air it flows so much better that the performance isn't hurt. I gained 1.5 mph in the quarter mile after i did this.

What does your 460 do in the quarter mile?? F250 or F350?? 4x2 or 4x4?

Its a f-250 4x4. My best was 16.8 at 77.5 mph. That was with the intake and no cat with a 3 inch cherry bomb and stock y pipe manifolds. It weighed in at about 6000 with me in it for those times.

That is dang amazing to get into the 16s with a 6k vehicle. And mainly a stock vehicle at that.

What is your altitude at the track? I am at 5800 feet and we loose 3 percent of horsepower per 1000 feet--over 15 percent of sea level/SAE horsepower.

Yeah i thought it was pretty impressive too. I think the altitude is about 900 or so. So that helps a lot. I also hooked up really well, ddidn't spin at all in 2 wheel. So that helps the time too.

thanks, anyway i like the sound comming from the intake of the WAAA along with my dual chamber muffler dumping over the axel i got today. i wanna look in to doing a different setup with perhaps a good afe dry filter with some sort of closed box and a similar intake tube to that 460 one
