Cruise control not working...

Sometimes the module itself rusts up. It's on the driverside inner fender, with a cable that runs to the throttle body. You can remove the cover, which is the electronics of the module, and check to see if the drive motor is seized. I had to use a pair of pliers to loosen it and put some oil on the bearings.

Never have figured out what's wrong with the cruise on mine. Tried to troubleshoot last year and gave up. Even replaced the cruise module with what should have been a good (but never tested prior to install) used unit and still nothing. Horn works, no airbag light after start up and brake lights work fine. Really don't believe the clock spring is bad and sure don't want to go through the hassle and cost to just toss a new one in either. Oh, and had the master switch recall done too. Am really curious what you find.

I do not remember where it is on a truck but it is near the steering column on a van.

Can anyone tell me what the cable / connector looks like the the cruise control module? I think I have the cable, coming in the firewall and leads over to where the ECM is mounted, but no box or module for the cruise .......... ALSO, I'm having brake trouble with the pedal going all the way to the floor, and NO fluid loss anywhere, was told it may be the ABS module ........... then I heard that the ABS & cruise control systems share the same modules .......... it gets does get easier ... right ? My truck is a 88' F-350 with the 460 efi and c6 transmission. PS: there is an ABS sensor mounted on the upper part of the rear differential !

Thanks subford. WHERE IS THE ABS VALVE LOCATED ON MY TRUCK? Plus, I'm not sure my truck even came with factory cruise control, at least the steering wheel presently in the truck doesn't have the function buttons for cruise OR the tilt feature normally found as a combo'd pair of options from FORD, so maybe the thing never had cruise, BUT, there is a 3 prong female electrical plug / wire coming in through the firewall and tucked behind the left side kick panel in the area of the ECM unit ..... I just can't figure out what this thing is ????

Yes, helps HUGE !!!! What manual are the diagrams from? Chilton's ? I'll have to pick one up to be sure. I don't see the electrical connector I'm referring to in any of the diagrams. I think the truck must have had trailer brakes at one time and the connector was used to hook up the brake controller inside the cab. None the less. I did find the ABS module under the dash and is connected to the harness. My brakes still fall all the way the floor with not much resistance, until the last 1/2 inch maybe before I get any braking action at all. NO fluid leaking anywhere, so there must be a "brake system" component failure, just need to figure out where it is. Thanks again for the post.
