Question Fuel economy: stage 1 vs 2 injectors

Ok. I'm pulling the sticks tonight for a Rosewood Shop Rebuild and i have a very specific question regarding fuel economy. Don't know if i should go straight to stage 2's or just stick with stage 1's. Basically, I'm thinking i can do stage 2's and run a PHP chip burnt for stage 1 sticks. When I have all supporting mods. done for stage 2's, then all i have to do is do a reburn on the chip. Make sense?

My question is specifically this: Will my fuel mileage suffer any if i have stage 2's being run by a stage 1 chip program versus stage 1 sticks and stage 1 chip program?

It could be 2-3 years before I have all my mods done for stage 2 and don't want to create a diesel pump monster by trying to think ahead/save money by making the jump right to stage 2 sticks.

My truck is stock except for:
-DIY 6637 air intake
-3" DP and 4" exhaust (no cat or muffler)
-Tru-Cool Tranny Cooler
-Gauges Tranny, EGT, Boost

Any thoughts would be great. Thanks in advance.

I'd go with stage I's... The only way you will be able to use stage II's is with a H2E turbo setup or similar.
With stock turbo or even a D55 setup stage I's are all you need. Running stage II's with stock turbo can really hurt some things. You'd need a bigger HPOP too.

I'm aware of these necessary upgrades. A larger turbo, bigger oil, more fuel, etc, etc are all necessary to support stage 2's.

As I understand things, stage 1 injectors will not flow more fuel than stock without the proper chip program to utilize the larger fuel flowing capabilities. So it should be the same way for stage 2 injectors running on a chip designed to flow stage 1 injectors. Right?

I don't believe stage 2 injectors will produce more power than stage 1, assuming the chip is burnt for stage 1's.

Can someone correct me if I'm wrong? Has anyone has used this same game plan when they rebuilt thier injectors larger?

The stage 2's from Rosewood have larger tips allowing higher volume of fuel even without other mods. At this point I'd just go with what BF suggested. The stage 1's with a good tune will do wonders for your truck.

i've heard that if you have stage II's without the supporting mods you need to drive it pretty easy to prevent killing the injectors

Go with the 2s. Most guys get the 1s than find them selves wishing they got 2s. You can get Tony Wildman to burn detuned settingsd on your chip untill you get the supporting mods.

That's more along the lines of what I've been told. Jim at RDS said the chip will be able to control the 2's. He just wan't sure how how the fuel ecomony would compare.

wmiller, when you say "detuned settings" you mean running chip settings for stage 1's right? I would think it's a special chip burn.

I've decided to go with the PHP chip. I'm sure they can detune as well-I think.
