Still working on it, but almost have it back on the road. In fact it is almost identicle to the photo other then white steel wheels. Does anyone make that stripe or will I have to paint it on the truck?
If the truck has the same pinstripe as the one in the 1978 brochure, then your truck is a 1978 year model.

Each year of the Explorer had a different pinstripe. No two years were the same.

The 1978 year model started in August of 1977.

Pic of 1977 explorer with pinstripe. The same stripes as "Tees77"

Those seats in that brochure were unique to the 1978 Explorer.

Each year of Explorer would have a simular but different special interior color and fabric option.

Contact numberdummy and he will put you in touch with a website that may be able to get you the fabric to have one made for you.

To get a ready made reupholstrey kit in that style? No such thing unfortunately.

Those stripes are off of a 1979 Explorer. If it was a 1978, it would have the stripes as seen in the 1978 brochure.

The plad seat fabric for my 77 explorer is available from SMS Auto Fabrics in OR. They sent me a sample. Wasn't cheap. I think they said $85/yard. Mine is the same as Harold's orange truck.

SMS Auto Fabrics
350 South Redwood St.
Canby, OR 97013
503-263-3535

info@smsautofabrics.com

I think they said they sold it by the square piece and you would need 4 pieces to have a seat made. You also have to get the vinyl which was $49/ yard and have someone make a seat cover. Can't remember if SMS makes the cover or not. They sent me some samples including carpet fabric. The plad matched perfectly.
There is a local upholstry guy by me that does a nice job, but he couldn't find me any fabric.
Maybe you and I should have 2 covers made and save some $?

In 1982 he had 71,000 on , and when I got it it has 80,151. He passed away at the end of 2007, (91 years old) and his family had an estate sale is how I got it. I hope you keep it original, as I am doing. But setting for ALL those years took its toll. But it's a lot of enjoyable work for the most part, and alot of the parts (mechanical) are easy to come by and are not all that expensive. It seems if it is bolted to it the rubber gaskets are leaking, or are soon to start leaking. Mine has the 300-6, my dad bought a 77 new which had the 302. The Explorer is a trim level, which I am a big fan of!

my truck was painted the same color as yours...its a 77 explorer 4x4 with a 400 it was stolen and painted red when it was recovered it was painted brown but with no stripe on the side. do you know anywhere i could find a paint schematic or just good pictures of the hood and sides so i can show it to the painter? i really want to get back to the stock paint job. Any help is greatly appreciated

The '77 Explorer stripe was made from three different part numbers. I was able to locate all three in tan at two different parts suppliers.
the problem with these stripe kits is they only have a shelf life of two years or so. Any longer and its a crap-shoot as to whether they will be any good.

Type 8 Explorer stripe kit, Tan
D7TZ-1020000-AU
Hood, fenders and doors, upper and lower.
Green Sales, Cincinnati, OH has two (800) 543-4969

D7TZ-1320000-AU
Back panel, upper and lower
Wesley Obsolete Parts, Liberty, KS has one (606) 787-5293

D7TZ-9920000-AU
Box sides, upper and lower
Green Sales has one

Mike, you are correct, as adhesive only last so long. However, the stickers can be reproduced by a decent graphics shop. You may also consider painting them on, as paint isn't a sticker...

Thank you so much for posting that brochure! My dad had that same package/color combo back in '80-ish. A '78 maroon with the stripes, F-150 4x4, 351m, auto. I have been looking for pics online of the same truck for quite awhile. Someday I'm going to own one just like it.
