EXPLORER: was a limited edition Trim and Option Group that was added to the other trim levels. Was only avaliable a few months out of the year, and didn't feature in the main brochure.
You could have, "Custom Explorers" or "Ranger Explorers" as a concequence.

CUSTOM: Baseline. Although you could order it basicly how you wanted it. A Highly optioned Custom is rare, but there are a few out there.

RANGER: One step above custom. Came standard with the chrome trim pictured above.

RANGER XLT: 1973-1975 Best you could Get. 1976-1979 One step below Best.

RANGER XLT Luxury Group: 1976-1977. Best you could get for your XLT. Later became Ranger Lariat.

RANGER LARIAT: 1978-1979

Race Track trim was standard on 1977 Ranger XLT, and 1978-1979 Ranger Lariats. Also avaliable with the Deluxe Tu-Tone Option.

There was also Freewheeling Packages, and the 1979 Indy Pace Truck.

We were talking to that Flashback F100 guy and the only reason he parted out that truck was that he couldn`t get the title from the origonal owner of the truck. It was funny watching people look at that truck, people would pop the hood open or open door and ask the price, 5 seconds later slam goes the $750 doors and $350 hood. I don`t even know what the cab or front clips price was. The initial price wasn`t too bad but then he added a reserve fee and on top of that he added a shipping fee on a bed on a truck which he was bringing anyway. But whatever, that bed is the best I have ever seen and has no putty or patch pannels, and it came with all the bed pieces and a origonal perfect $400 tailgate. That whole truck was factory new quality and was shameful to be parted but hey, I got a bed from it.

I stopped by twice and looked this one over. The second time by I talked with a few guys there and we concluded there was a title issue is why it was being parted out. Sure was a nice truck, and you could tell it was owned by an older guy who garage kept it, and babied it it's entire life. I don't think you could find a bed in better shape, and I am sure there is NO rust on it AT ALL!!

PS: Thanks Anthony for all the Explorer ****, always a joy to see. Also, is that stuff available in original, or reproduction form to buy anywhere?

This is exactly what mine looks like...ugly S.O.B. The color isn't so bad, but the stripes are horrible. I couldn't pass it up though, $600 for an almost original garage kept 80,000 mile truck.

Please do, would love to get hold of some. I remember when I worked at the Ford garage back in the 70's they would toss out boxes of last years stuff they could no longer use. I rember making mention, but they all laughed at me, and told me to go ahead and dig out it out of the dumpster, and set on it for 30 years, which I never did, and wish I would have!!
