I was driving last night and all of a sudden my overdrive light started to flash on and off. 10 minutes later my Service Engine Soon light came on. Can the two be related. Once I got home I noticed a strange smell coming from the engine compartment. Expy is a 02 with 109xxx miles.

 

I'd probably look around the engine and tranny to see if anything is leaking.

 

No visible leaks anywhere. I have a feeling this is going to cost me a bunch.

I agree swing by Autozone they'll read the codes for you.Let us know how you make out.

 

Usually the code readers at autozone, pepboys and Advance cannot pull tranny codes. My OD light started blinking on wednesday and I just found out today from the shop that the code is for torque converter clutch solenoid circuit issue. **sigh**

 

I had the same issue early on in my Expedition's life. O/D light started blinking and soon there-after, the engine light came on. It ended up being a shift solenoid in the trans which went bad. Mine was replaced under warranty, so can't comment on the cost of the repair.

 

Expy is at the shop and they said they pulled transmission codes PO740 and PO743. He said he resetted the codes and drove around for 45 minutes and no lights started to flash. He said that the tranny shifted smooth. I am going to pick it up and hope for the best.

Damn, you're lucky. After researching on here I went and actually drove my Nav home (3 miles) and it drove fine but the CEL is still on. I let it sit for a couple days and then last night I tried to test drive it again and after driving for about 2 miles or so the OD light started blinking again and it almost stalled. I babied her home so looks like I'll be buying the solenoid and I'm gonna attempt to replace it.

Anyone know the best place to purchase the solenoid for a GREAT price?
