Low compression and no real hot rodding parts available. Also why are you asking this on the FE forum. A 460 is a 385 motor?

Solid motor overall. I had a new '96 F350 with one in it. The only bad thing was typical broken exhaust manifold bolts. They were too small in diameter, they would stretch as it heated, then break after a year or so. Mine had a bad one when I sold it, though it wasn't bad after it warmed up, it tic'd when cold.

No hot rod parts? I bolted a Vortech supercharger onto mine and it got with the program for a big truck. Mine was basically stock, except for big turbo muffler and I was impressed.

If you don't want to add big power, then at least bump the timing as they are usually pretty laxed. Stock was like 6* and I put mine at 10* and it ran circles around itself.

Putting this post in the proper forum will likely get you more responses.

Well, only a moderator can "move" the post. Hopefully one will happen along and do it for ya.

Might want to just start one in the 385 forum. This one will die out and go away on it's own.

BTW, welcome to FTE.

Solid motor not a thing wrong with it. What year? They are right you can't do a lot to it because of the speed density. You can do all the little tricks and get some extra hp out of it. I have done a lot of work to mine and i am waiting on my mass air kit now. If it is a good solid truck i would go for it.

Its a 1990 F350 Custom single cab Dually 5 speed with 43000 miles on it. It was a state park truck. short miles but truck runs great and is solid. Cosmetically not a real beauty, LOL. neeeds TLC on the outside, but has good AC and runs real smooth. Inside is just dirty and needs new flooring. Body has no dents except tailgate, and has some peeling paint and rust. Im ready for ths project.

Only problem I have run into with my 94 was that when I lived in Oregon, where it is wet 9 months of the year, I had the spark plugs often rust into place. Even broke one removing it once.

I use Permatex antisieze and still had this problem.

California is much less problem.

So far my engine has about 96,000 miles on it with plenty of towing my 8,000# trailer. I bought it used at 36,000.

Just my experience,

Jim Henderson
