have you had your oil changed anywhere besides ford? the have a certain kind of filter they use. i could be one of the causes of the tick.

It could also be that they did not use the correct oil. I had a 01 Expy that would click on 10-30, but not 5-30....

The dealer is playing games with you....

1. Exhaust system leaks near the engine

2. Improper valve lash caused from a variety of reasons including defective components, timing chain tensioner

Ford has specific sop's for evaluating the causes.....find another dealer!

If its the exhaust leak at the engine, its been going on for 10 years for petes sake!!! if so, then maybee they need to redesign that part of the motor! somehow this does not suprise me they would leave it be

no its definitely not an exhaust leak. the ticking sound is similar to a push rod engine with a noisy valve/lifter assembly but only at 700-1000rpms

You probably have a bad cam phaser. It's the left or right side cam gear. Try to see if you can tell which side it's coming from. Also to verify, power brake the truck in drive, hold it at 1000 RPM. The noise then will be much more pronounced....should sound more like a knocking.

dealership spoke with ford today and ford wants an oil pressure test performed on it. apparently if ther is under 25psi of oil pressure the vct will not function properly

well.. they replaced at cam phaser on the passenger side and they told me a it wasnt as loud but they are not happy with it. now ford has given the direction to replace the solenoids on the same side. Dealer has been great but ford seems to be turning this into a science project.

I have a knocking noise around 1000rpms when engine is hot. After taking it to the dealer, their "pro" said it was fuel injector noise which is normal. I have a hard time believing that one since it is noisier when hot only around 1000 rpms and with slight load on engine, not to mention my old 04 had the same rattling noise too. The cam phasers and tensioners were replaced in the old one and the noise went away for 20,000 miles but came back and eventually got worse. I noticed the noise around 3,000 miles. The oil was changed by the dealer at 5600 miles. It is more of a rattle sound, not a tick like an injector. I thought I was going to have a quiet engine when I said good writtens to the 04, but surprise, de-ja-vu. anyone else have the noise?

well the solenoid replacment didnt fix anything now they are going to replace the head on the passenger side. I dont even want the piece of junk back. 7000km and the engine has been partially dismantled 3 times. I now have no faith and will never trust it.

Guy, find out the lemon law in Ontario. Usually, after 2 attempts at repairing the same defect, you must give written notice to Ford for their final and last attempt to repair the defect to start the lemon law provisions. I strongly suggest you review the lemon law requirements and take the appropriate action.

Best of luck.

No kidding, no lemon laws in Ontario? I thought Canada and the provinces were all about consumer protection from business and marketplace. The law is clearly not on your side. Have you considered bringing your truck to a different dealer?
