My parents didn't know much about Fords except hate them.

I live in Montgomery County of MD, adjunct to D.C. but I am not a native.

See now I'm curious where/when my mirror may have come from. They are not what originally came with the truck by the looks of the other holes.

Just something else to add to the "wondering about my truck" list.

Looks like any auto parts store cheapie.

You most likely had a Type 9 mirror originally judging by the holes in the door(s).

Hmmm bummer....was hoping for more like "ooooohhh those are the super rare Type X2 mirrors. Only installed on 10 trucks hand assembled by the ghost of Henry Ford himself." or something like that. Now that they are just common bleh mirrors I have to add "Find original mirrors" to my to do list

Thanks though for the insight.

Type 7? Yes...it appears to be.

But...this mirror doesn't even begin to fit the door correctly, so it's prolly off an Econoline.

C5TZ17696A .. Panoramic Mirror-Clamp On-4 1/2" in diameter / Obsolete

This accessory mirror, which was only sold at the parts counter, is encased in a soft white rubberized material, has an amber lens on the front side.

It can pivot in any direction.

I have a color pic of this mirror in both the 1965 & 1966 Ford Truck Accessory Brochures, but how you can see it, I dunno.

Maybe one of the following can take a pic of it, and pass it along.

BOWMAN FORD SALES in Bowman ND has ONE = 701-523-3257.

KINSEL L/M in Beaumont TX has ONE = 800-816-2894.

YADKIN VALLEY MOTOR CO. in North Wilkesboro NC has TWO.

LES WENNING MOTORS in Fort Recovery OH has ONE.

PARTS INTERNATIONAL in Farmers Branch TX has ONE = 888-727-0418.

JST AUTOMOTIVE in Lebanon TN has ONE = 615-443-3086.

DENNIS CARPENTER OBSOLETE PARTS in Concord NC has EIGHT = 704-786-8139.

Numberdummy,

does anyone have any in stock of the type 9 mirrors like the pic of the white truck on the first post of this thread?

I believe looking at the holes in my doors that this was the original mirrors on my '73 F-100 4x4.

I really want to avoid crappy Chinese parts

Looks like the bracket is reversed. That type of mirrors were a POS to begin with. I spent many years duct taping the heads so it'd stay in the position! Terrible design.

I just knew when I asked Chad to post the picture of these mirrors, that y'all would start asking where some could be found. That'll teach me to open my big mouth!

No, I don't mind looking...but typing all this jazz is a time consuming PITA.

TYPE 9 = 1973/79 F100/350 / 1978/79 Bronco

D4TZ17696A .. Outside Mirror / Right/Left is the same.

5 1/4" x 8 1/4" stainless steel mirror head, flat bracket.

Upper Portion of bracket has (2) mounting holes on a 2 3/4" bolt center.

Lower portion of bracket has (2) mounting holes on a 2" bolt center.

The bracket has a span of 7 19/32 inches.

According to the Ford Dealer Parts Locator System, a grand total of SEVEN are still available from Ford.

MSRP each: $84.18 // FTE sponsor: PARTSGUYED.com (MILLENNIUM FORD in Seattle) price: $67.68.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There's another similar mirror, but the brackets are curved, the bolt spacing is 2" above and below, and the span is 6 11/16"

D6TZ17696A .. Outside Mirror / Right/Left is the same / Obsolete

The last MSRP of this mirror was $58.33. Call around to get the best prices, some of these sources will be fair, some will not!

MORLAN-SHELL FORD in West Plains MO has TWO = 417-256-3195.

MATLOCK FORD-MERCURY in Franklin IN has THREE.

KINSEL L/M in Beaumont TX has THREE = 800-816-2894.

TALLAPOOSA FORD in Alexander City AL has TWO.

WAYSIDE FORD in Marlborough MA has TWO.

IPSWICH FORD in Ipswich MA has TWO.

IMMEL MOTORS in Fredericksburg TX has TWO.

PARTS INTERNATIONAL in Farmers Branch TX has THREE = 888-727-0418.

GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has TWO = 800-543-4959.

There's several other dealers that have one each, but none are located in AR.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
But wait...there's more!

There were three other versions of this mirror used in 1978/79.

The difference is in the size of the mirror head (one is 6" x 9" the others are the same as above), and how the mirror glass mounts into the body of the mirror head.

Stupid, IMO, to have five similiar mirrors, but that was typical of what Ford did back then.

btw: In case anyone here is interested, the mirrors heads were also available by themselves.

There are FIVE different mirror heads.
