what to do?

Here's the story, I was buying a 07 ranger off of a guy when he called and said I need the truck back, as nothing was in my name I was kinda screwed. A guy I go to church with sold me a 93 f150 4x4 with a 300 and a 5spd. I've been looking for a good truck to put a 4bt cummins into. So I pose the question to all you wonderful men and women. should I keep the 6 or put the 4diesel into it?

Run it as long as it works and does what you want it to while you gather parts for a swap. I think it would cooler to have a bt4 in a ranger, but if you need a fulsize, stick w the f150

I would think a diesel would be too strong for that truck, you may be looking at reinforcing the frame from twisting from too much torque. If not now it could gradually happen over time.

If the frame didn't twist right away you'd be lucky, but you would definitly have to change to a stronger rearend spline and gear setup. I t would brobably break right away. There would be a whole lot to consider, the cheaper route would be to find a diesel truck.

Yeah the 4bt is not like the 6bt, were talking about 140 hp, 300-350 ftlbs. If I do the swap I will be driving it until I have everything, has it's my only rig right now. I want diesel because it's less parts to maintain. Can run about anything through it, from veggie oil to tranny fluid to waste motor oil, kerosene, etc. Power band is on tap right off throttle. They last longer(although the 4.9 last a long time also.) Right now it's my only rig, but in the future I plan on getting another truck and fixing this one up a bit(couple of rust spots, new interior, etc.) While doing that I was going to rebuild the engine, but really want a diesel so I thought about going with a 4bt with it. I'm not sure what the 4.9 weighs but the 4bt is 750lbs. I don't know, I might just drive it until the doors fall off and then push it over a hill.

I have had diesels in the past and love them, The conversion is too big a project for me to do but it would be fun to try.

In all honesty the 300I6 isn't far off those numbers.. 150hp @ 3400rpm and 260 ftlbs @ 2000rpm as dilivered. Add a tri-Y header and it'll produce well over 300 ft lbs, you may change your mind about the diesel swap after you drive it.

The 300 has been around for years "Tried and Trued"..It has a lot of torque.I guese it would depend on the work load applied. If you were going to use a 07 ranger for the same work load , then stay with the 300.That has a mazda tranny in it,drain the fluid and put synthetic tranny fluid..My opion,anyways..

Not an 07 ranger, 93 f150. I know the L6 aren't that far off. but it's diesel, fuel comes from a deep fryer and is free. A lot less parts to worry about. Way better mileage. Can use the same tranny, motor mounts etc. very easy swap with more low end torque. should still be able to cruise 65-70 no problem since I have 3.55's in the diffs. Can put it in low range and crawl up the Hoover damn. I just realized I've already made up my mind.
