The codes point to an EGR problem, which is unrelated to the oil coming out the breather. If the PCV valve is clear then I would do that compression check you mentioned. Sounds like you might have some pretty serious blow-by.

I had a van that was blowing oil out the dipstick tube once. Same as you I was going to work and it just started running bad.Found that one of the pistons had a hole melted in it,probably because the day before I put smaller jets in the carb to save on gas and it was running way to lean.

That would be the next thing to do... My truck has been having the same problem minus the egr codes. I was getting cross firing from the 7-8, and some real light pinging pulling up big hills. Truck lost power on I-5 popped the hood at jack in the box, and the breather was blowing oil all over hell. Checked PVC and it all was sat. Drove it 80 miles home to play with it, misfiring and shaking the whole way. Was playing with it last night, all the plugs looked good but #8, it was black and sooty. Checked spark on that cyl and moved the plug wire way outside, around the dip stick even. Power is back, 80% of the mis fire is gone, but its still has some missing around 1000 rpm and still blows oil.

Yeah, that doesn't look good at all. Let us know what you find with that dead cylinder. With any luck it's a bent valve, but you normally don't get oil in the breather that way.

Got the head off finally, and theres a hole in the piston.

I figured it was time to upgrade a bit so Im thinking on ordering a 347 long block crate to throw in. Any suggestions on where to get it?

Also has anyone done this? What sort of hang ups could I run into when Putting this sucker in?
