What mods do you think are HP gaining myths? (Research for Testing)

Ok, so as a dude with tons of mechanical knowledge and unlimited access to a 4-wheel dyno, I'd like to compile a list of theories, parts, and mods that you personally think will increase horsepower and torque.
They will all be tested througholy, and results will be posted.

For example,
Throttle Body Spacers
The Infamous Smog Pump Super-Charger
Cold Air Intake
Different Stock Snorkels from different motors
Custom, ARB type snorkel
EGR Delete
Smog Pump Delete
A/C Delete
Electric fan conversion
Headers
Straight pipe
Gutted cat
Higher Octane Gas
Advanced timing

What are your ideas on increasing horsepower?
Shoot me your ideas and things you've heard about!

How about testing the Explorer and HO intakes against the truck intake?

For example,
Throttle Body Spacers // dont waste your time
The Infamous Smog Pump Super-Charger // Waste of time
Cold Air Intake // 5-10 hp
Different Stock Snorkels from different motors
Custom, ARB type snorkel //no hp increase
EGR Delete //waste of time
Smog Pump Delete // less drag
A/C Delete // only when it is on is it robbing power
Electric fan conversion // less drag
Headers // more torque
Straight pipe // Only on high rpm race engines
Gutted cat // reduced power
Higher Octane Gas // depends on the app
Advanced timing // yes

How about pitting a 460 against the 5.4 like another thread in somewhere else in this website fought over. Then pitting the V-10 against the 7.3L turbo of late vintage.

Oh wait those arent horsepower mods.

See if the racing stickers help

hmm, i could go on for days about the myths. Such as heads with big ports wont make torque.

But as far as the everyday mods, i think you got them covered.

Id like to see dyno results on a smog pump supercharger, as crazy as the idea may be, dyno results can put that one to rest or bring it to life.

How about the old school alternator kill switch. A switch that cuts the voltage to the alternator, preventing it from creating the magnetic field thereby allowing it to freespin instead of parasitically draining a few HP.

But none have had actual thorough testing performed.
Which will be the point behind this testing.
No one ever posts factual evidence.

More great ideas guys! MORE IDEAS!

i might have it backards. the point is to make the plug fire before the piston hits the top. this way it has time to burn all the way before it starts to push the cylinder down.

example. my fathers old chevy 6 cylinder. the timing was 4 before TDC. he retarded it to 6 and got noticeably more power and better mileage. this of course was a while ago and is for lower octane fuel that dosent combust as fast as higer octane fuel.

That is advancing the timing.
