First Oil Change/ Service

I have read the manual regarding service intervals 5-10k depending on driving habits. Dose anyone have another recommendation for the first oil/ filter change, I know with may gas I did it a 2500. Also any advice on additive to the fuel and oil at the first change and future. A mechanic I was considering using, to avoid my local dealer, told me they use 1 less qt of oil and replace it with an additive, along with the fuel conditioner, any thoughts? First time diesel owner!

Thanks

Best recommendation is to use the motorcraft filters and CJ-4 oil. If you do it yourself you need to let the truck sit for 10-15 mins to ensure all the oil is in the pan.

Put in 14 qts, run motor let sit and recheck after a few and see if full.

Being new I changed mine at 3500 miles. IMHO going over 5K is just too long so that is when I do mine.

As far as additives, some here are using them. I am not and I am getting along just fine.

I changed mine close to the 5K mark. I had them add the synthetic which should last longer from everything you read.

As far as additives, don't know personally. My understanding is that adding additives is cheaper then going synthetic. It's better then straight oil but not as good as synthetic. Again, this is just from reading past posts on the topic and not from personal experience so please don't take my word on it.

My suggestion would be to do several searches and read up on the topic. If it's a mechanic you trust, get his opinion on the 3 types, what does he thinks better over the other then go from there based on what you can afford and what you want to do.
