turbo

I have a banks turbo and I hate the thing. It adds hours and hours to every job I have to do on the truck. I have to have had an extra day or so removing the transmission because of the way banks routed the exhaust. Is there any other turbo that can be removed when needed so I can maintain the truck and still have the extra power or should I just start looking to retrofit a different turbo on the truck?

I am in the same boat. I wish a thousand times over I would have gotten a Hypermax since its much less intrusive!

I might get around to doing it one day. More likely I will wait until this engine goes and I get a 6.9 and mount it in there instead.....

I think it would be ok if I could figure out a way of pulling the thing out of there fairly quickly. I put studs in the exhaust chamber to make it easier to put on the exhaust flange. I'm going to put clamps on the exhaust pipes but, I still have the problem of the exhaust pipe that feeds the turbo, I have to come up with a good way of getting that out of there. Any suggestions?

davelance01,
Welcome to FTE and the IDI diesel forum.

Given the limited amount of space under the hood and the plumbing a turbo requires, you will find some jobs will take longer on a turbo motor.

This model is in the way for one job, that model is in the way for another job.

I am running an ATS 093 turbo, and it makes changing the glow plug on #7 cylinder a real pain.
Removing the IP is also a lot harder since the injection lines must be removed from the IP before it can be removed.
But other than that it is rather out of the way.

But I also have a T 19 transmission, so the bell housing is seperate from the transmission which makes that job easier.
