Headers for 292 in '59 f250

I'm working on a '59 f250 and finally found a 292 for it. I want to get rid of the goofy cross over pipe so I can run dual exhaust.

I'd like to get full length headers for it but am not sure which ones are good or which ones will fit the truck without hitting anything. I will be leaving it at the stock ride height so should have plenty of clearance there.
Where I live I don't need to pass any kind of emissions or inspections(was told full length headers don't pass smog?), so that won't be a problem.
Posted this in the 292 page but this wasn't getting any replies, seems like people here might know more about clearances.

thanks

Thumbs up

There are several of them available for a 292. Mid-Fifty sells them, and then there are a few aftermarket companies that make em specifically for the 292.

Snowking has a good reputation on FTE. Snowking has a good reputation on FTE.
Ive heard Chevrolet 350 headers are eaisly modiefied and way cheaper, just the gaps between the exhaust tubes have to be shortened slightly.

If Patriot makes headers for the 223, they should have them for the Y-blocks.

I was over on the "yblockforever" forum and they recommended Reds full length haders. Looks like they're designed to fit my truck as well(not just the engine). They're only $225 which is well within my budget.

I don't know if you have purchased your headers yet, but I have a '58 F100 w/ a 292 also. I am currently saving my money for a pair of long tube "Tri-Y" headers from Stan's headers (www.stansheaders.com). They are a lot more expensive than a pair of Red's headers (I was quoted $750 for a set w/ ceramic coating), but the headers look like a very quality constructed piece. One feature that really caught my eye was the "ball and socket" collector design. This set up is more like a "stock" exhaust manifold, therefore should be a lot less prone to leaking than traditional collector designs. I am a member of Y-Blocks Forever Forum and have only heard of one or two responses in regards to Stan's headers on Y-Blocks, but they have been very positive compared to the responses from other header manufacturers (Red's, Patriot, Fenton, etc.). I assume the lack of response from the Stan's headers is because of their expense compared to the others (easily double the price and triple for the ceramic coated pair I want!), but feel that their construction is superior to the others. I'm glad to see someone else w/ a '57-'60 model F100! I feel like a loner sometimes since I don't have a '48-'56 or '65 and later model pick up! Keep in touch w/ your truck and plans for it! I am looking to do quite abit to mine in the future...converting to electronic ignition, installing T-5 trans, cam swap, head swap, installing electric fuel pump, and the highlight is installing my Edelbrock three duece intake w/ Stromberg carbs! What do you plan on doing w/ yours?

I think I might just go with the Reds headers. They seem decent enough and are right in my buget. I really can't justify $750, maybe later down the road.

My goal for this is to end up with a slick classic truck that I can use everyday as a truck. I plan to tow, haul stuff in the bed and run it around just like if it were a newer pickup.
I have it stripped to the frame. Sandblasting everything and doing my best to fix the big stuff but as I said I'm building a slick work truck not a show rig.
As I've told others I'm building "my truck" not an all-original auction piece.

I'll keep you updated on progress.

Don't feel alone. These late fifties trucks are my favorites. I'm still trying to find an 03 later police interceptor front suspension and cross member to start my mod motor conversion. I'm going to buy a 60 1 ton tomorrow with a 292/4 speed. The truck is great shape body wise and only has 90K orig. I think I am going to use the cab and fenders for my 59 f100. I really hate to get rid of the 292 and 4 speed though. I'm kinda torn now about doing the custom work on the f100 when I can stick an orig v8 and 4 speed in it. We'll see what happens, maybe I can get a good chunk of my money back. I have heard the Red's are a decent header. I was looking at buying a set a couple years ago for a 56 wagon I had. The price is affordable, especially for a work truck.
