|Need help!! 1316 code SES light on and off truck runs bad.

driving today SES light came on truck started to miss real bad, light went off truck ran fine. did that a couple more times. got home read code it was 1316. cleared it. went to pick up tractor got about 15 miles from home started again. only did it when i hit some bumps. and now it will not stop and light stays on. could it be my plug under the valve covers? now i am 20 miles from my tools will it make it home?

That's exactly what it is.

Especially since you mentioned that it comes and goes, and that a bump triggered it again. Sounds like a loose UVC harness to me.

What did you use to retrieve the code? If you have something that can run a buzz test, you can find out which side is loose. Or you can pop off both valve covers and put updated clips in to keep them from coming loose again.

As for the question of will you make it home??? Well that might be iffy. Depends on how many bumps are on the road. LOL

how hard is it to upgrade clips can i get them from ford dealership. how hard is it to get the pass side valve cover off? can you reuse the gasket? i will take them bothoff and retighten everything. THANK you for the quick answer. i used an edge cant do a buzz test. i am looking at the termnator gauge/ code reader.

Taking the valve covers off isn't too bad. I actually think the passenger side is easier. Valve cover gaskets are re-usable. You should be able to pick up some shims for the harness at Ford or International for not too much money. In a pinch you can even make your own shim to keep it from coming unhooked again.

I ground the edge off a quarter and used it as a shim when I did mine.

i cant thank you guys enough. i put two new harnesses under both valve covers. the drivers side was half unpluged. while i was under there i retighten all the stuff you all said to tighten. along with the quater trick. so hopefuly i wont have to do this again. i would give you guys reps if i could figure out how.

Runs a lot better now doesn't it? It's scary how much a dealer would charge to do the same thing.

Hope you had something good to stand on. With your lift, you'd need to be about 8' tall to not use a stool.

yea i did use a 6' ladder haha. i dont want to think about how much a dealer would charge to do the same thing. Could not have done it with out the help of you guys.
