T19 out ZF 5 in

Im wanting to do a zf5 swap on my 87 6.9 4x4. Found a zf5 out of a 1996 7.3 4x4. Is this a bolt in swap or are there other mods that have to be done?

'96 would be a ZF S5-47, Good transmission.

The ZF is a popular swap.

It would be very helpful to know your current transmission.

The flywheel off the '96 will not work, you will need the transmission cross member.

There is very little modifications to be done, just parts swaps.

Here is a good thread on the Zf conversion, However it is mostly for a BBF, though there is a lot of good info.

Isnt the speed sensor in the rear end housing on a '96? If it is, then there isnt a sensor in the tailhousing on the tranny, which means you wont have a speedometer.

It's a 4x4 and I believe the speedometer hooks to the transfer case on the '87.

And now I see the topic answered my previous question... Thats what I get for not reading the topic.

You will need a clutch disc as well, the ZF has a larger input shaft.
