Congrats on the find. Since someone has already trimmed down and installed an 05 grill on that, I'm curious to find out what other mods you may already have. Do you have any extra gauges or switched mounted inside the cab? Would you mind posting a few pics of under the hood from different angles so we can see what else may have been done?
If you need knowledge about your new diesel, you've come to the right place.
Thats exactly what I was wondering with 315s and an 05 grill he could have other mods get some pictures under the hood for us please

Take it to Autozone they will point them out for you .

Well Barry if it still worries you I can take your truck off your hands .
Now Barry why did you do that don't you know you need a tornado and a throttle body spacer to clean all that smoke up it works better then the new spark plugs.
Welcome to this great website, many knowledgable folks here. I am rather new here myself. Looks like you have a nice rig. I also have a 2002 F350 4x4 S/C which now has 78000 on it. My truck runs great. I have done some mod's ( AIS Intake/ MBRP exhaust/ POD/Shocks/Stablizer) but not chipped. I feel my upgraded intake and exhaust has helped my truck run better (lower EGT's/better fuel milage/ engine breathes better)
There are still many 7.3's running strong, I know yours will also.
Hey blue 1ton, I was interested in the mpg increase from your mods air intake and mbrp exhaust. I ordered those through riffraff and they should be here this week. thanks
Ok guys I hooked the new ride to my camper yesterday and headed out for the weekend. Not real impressed with the oiler! I pulled the same camper down the same highway with my 05 (150/5.4) just as good; better in some spots. The camper is a 31' travel trailer (8000 lbs).
I am wondering if something might be wrong with this thing. It felt like I had it on the floor the whole trip to maintain 70 MPH. I also noticed that when pulling steep inclines it pulled down to around 49 MPH before it ever shifted down to 2nd gear (flat to the floor). Seems like the transmission should down shift alot sooner to keep the r's up. Also at cruising speed if you smash the pedal down it won't down shift to 2nd gear. By the way I had the OD turned off for the whole trip. Any thoughts?

Welcome to the club brother, is there any square boxes ot switches to turn or push in that nice truck of your, prolly not, but if you want to wake up that sleeping giant, DP Tuner, Tony Wildman, PHP, Swampps, that what you want to inquirer about, get the info and facts, we will help you
Not downshifting until about 50mph seems to be about normal, at least thats also what mine does. With regards to feeling low on power, well, I pull a 5th wheel thats close to 14,000 lbs and while Im not going to win any races, I feel like my truck has plenty of pulling power to get the job done, and I am pretty much stock. The more knowledgeable guys here will get you in track, but I'm thinking maybe a boost leak or something that is making it feel sluggish.
Really though, your new truck should put your old F150 to shame pulling that 8,000 camper, so I agree that it sounds like something is amiss. Good luck.

WELCOME to the Powerstroke World!! Very nice looking truck!
On your power issue, you may very well have a boost leak at one or more of your intercooler boots (large diameter rubber hoses connecting the turbo discharge "spider" to the intercooler pipes and then also where those pipes connect to the intercooler on either side of the radiator), or perhaps at the up-pipe flanges. There are also other things that can drain the power off your rig. Regardless, there are a ton of guys here who can help you diagnose just about anything at all.
I have to agree witht he guys above, even with a stock 7.3 u should be able to pull that trailer no problem. Like they said, most likely u got a boost leak or an exhaust leak at the uppipes. Check the fire wall for any black soot, and also check those intercooler boots, if they are oily, clean them up and then tighten the clamps down even more. Change your oil, change your air filter, just do a good service as u dont know when the last service was done to it. Also, with that many miles, i would probably go ahead and flush the tranny and get new fluid and a new filter in there too. good luck
According to BTS and others, the tranny filter almost never needs a change, unless you have had a catastrophic failure. I agree with the others, that description sounds like a boost leak somewhere. Also, don't discount the fact that you have 315's (unless you changed them out since your 1st post) and that changes what the PCM sees with regards to shift points and MPH, so it will certainly effect a stock truck pulling a moderately heavy load. I would look for boost leaks first than start thinking about a 6637 Kwik filter mod, and probably next a set of gauges, boost, tranny temp and exhaust gas temp, then we can talk about getting a DP tuner in there. You will absolutely LOVE it compared to your old chick truck errrr.. I mean F150...

most people said boost leaks which i agree with and HK brought up the tires which is what i was gonna say. they are bigger and will rob you of some power as well as change the shift habits unless it has been re-calibrated for your bigger tires......
You guys rock! I still have the 315 tires on it and I thought that might be part of the problem. I will get under the hood and check for leaks. If it had a 351, 429, 460 etc. I would just rip it out and tear into it! All new to me. I didn't mention in my last post, but it also burned the hell out of fuel! I will check the mpg when i refuel, but it sucked out 3/4 + of a tank in about 150 miles??
Thanks again.

Like i mentioned i would do a good complete service to that thing. Change all filters. also check those leaks like u will be doing, could be causing some of the MPG loss. U should be getting twice that mileage
