2002 7.3 no fuel

I have a 2002 7.3 with 16,000 miles. it was idleing good, but had no power to try to drive, was sputtering and missing, so I brought it back home and changed the fuel filter. I removed what fuel was in the bowl, thought might be water in there , but wasn't.when I closed the houseing back up, and started it, I t ran out of fuel, and won't restart. with the filter cap back off, and key on fuel is not comeing out. I closed it back up again, and keep cycling the key to hear the fuel pump, but it is not running. there is power to the fuse on both sides.I know that I am trying to dianois like it is a gas truck, but I don't know any other way. the cel has not come on, nor water in fuel. new fuel pump is $440, and I want to be sure that is what it needs, as I don't have that kind of money to just throw at the truck unless that is what's wrong

Sounds like the pump, about all else you can do is bench test it. If you end up needing a pump get ahold of me. I can get you a better deal than that. Good Luck

is this pump located in the tank, or on the rail? sorry to be so dumb about this truck, but it is the 1st power stroke we have ever owned.

I found the fuel pump in the rail. I took a test light, and held it on the terminals, while some one turned on the key. test light lit, but pump did not come on. I guess this means fuel pump bad?

Charlie. I wish you were closer. I have a used pump that you could test with. Better than spending a bunch of bucks and not need it since they cannot be returned.

Crack the fuel line in front of the pump (towards engine), turn key in attempt to start and see if you have fuel. If not, pump may be gone. Before you buy one, disconnect the rear line, take it to the ground and give a little siphon and see if you can get the fuel to run. If not, the sock is plugged. If you can get fuel, then you are back at the pump. I know, been through the whole routine, still bought a pump and found out I did not need it.

thanks, I'm going to do that, but when under the truck, some one cycling key, test light shows power, fuel pump not running, think pump, but with the low mileage on the truck, something has to have caused it to go bad. fuel filter was really black, mabe picked up some bad fuel somewhere, and sock is full too. thanks

If you have power / ground at the pump and it does not work, you have a bad pump.
