I just did some mods and there are some definite changes to my truck. I'm not sure what to think and would like some advice from the more experienced PSD owners.
Before the mods I just finished up today, my truck was set up as follows;
*gauges and DP Tuner with; 40T, 80E, 140.
*No factory cat, Muffler delete and 4" from mid cab (old muffler) back. stock down pipe.
*JW valve body
*Duralast 6637
Now for the new stuff that I had been installing for the last 12 hours -
I just added ITP Diesel's-
*Ported Shroud Compressor Housing with 4" intake (because I had turbo surge, gone now with this part)
*HPX line
*4" down pipe and true 4" all the way out.
*Overboost Annihilator
I also did the CCV, foil delete, cleaned up the boots and and painted up the IC pipes and intake.
Here are my symptoms while driving the truck empty-
1) Laggy turbo spool up, the truck still seems to "stand up" when the turbo spools, just not as soon. (I added a 4" down pipe, could this be what I feel?)
2) I dont spool up to 24psi any more. Before the 12 hour wrench fest, the gauge would work up to 24psi and sit there soild through the gears. NOW AFTER THE MODS, the most I could get is 20psi and NO change between the red wastegate line pugged in or unplugged. (could I have a boost leak or maybe the waste gate is out of adjustment after adding the shroud?)
3) I do have MORE SMOKE when I roll into the fuel on 80E and 140. EGT's are down compared to before.
Would the Ported Shroud Compressor Housing have theese effects? I must say, the turbo surge IS GONE! Thats what started all this wrenching
Double check on your wastegate rod adjustment. You will usually need to re-adjust the tension after the housing. If that doesn't work take a look and make sure all your boots look good. I am willing to bet it is the wastegate rod though. Good luck.

Thanks man. I will look at that. I sure hope its something easy lol BTW; You got mail - - - - -
When I put my ATS on, I didn't get the outlet lined up correctly with the spider. I *SWORE* it was, but the boost leak detector found that problem very quickly. You're describing a classic boost leak, so you might build a boost leak detector and see if you've got a leak someplace. You messed with all your boots with that last round of mod'ing, so chances are one isn't sealed up right if it isn't the outlet alignment. All you need to build your own leak detector is a 3" PVC cap, a 1/4" NPT tap, 7/16" drill, and an air nipple. Here's what mine looks like:
And it certainly could be a leak somewhere along the intake path. You pulled the entire thing from filter to heads, so I'd look there first. I have a little soot around my up-pipes but can still build 30psi.

Maybe another o ring issue like mine? I forgot to put the o ring on that goes between the spider pipe and the turbo and I had the same symptoms before I put it on.

Thanks for the advice guys. I did get the orings in wherfe they belong, but like stated, it does sound like a boost leak. I will pick up the stuff for the pressure tester this weekend and get it made up.
What PSI should I charge the system with? 30psi? Then what, spray the boots with soapy water?

Did you have to adjust your WG at all? I like the boost tool you made. I could whip one up in ne time... Thanks

I don't have a wastegate. I have a van turbo. But 20-25psi is plenty. The air will just be rushing out of where ever the leak is. No water needed. Make sure you use a rasp or something along the edge of the coupler. I didn't at first and it was okay when it was leaking, but once I got the leak sealed and it built up some pressure.... Let's just say 25psi is enough to launch that coupler off the end of the intake tube with impressive force.

I just got done 20 min ago sealing up all my leaks. Wow, did I have a leak problem. I bought dieselsites version and I must say, what a nice piece it is. I ran mine to 15-20 psi. You will deffinately hear any leaks immediatley.

It was the waste gate adjustment. Thanks for helping me troubleshoot the problems. The waste gate was about 3/8" out.
Now I'm up to 20 solid PSI in STOCK and 28-30PSI on 80E and 140.
Thanks guys for the help! And thanks Brad, "Old school" with the big red dually for helping me.
