You don't want a 6.0L that has set lot either. It's hard on the Turbo. If you're driving is a lot of short hop (less than 20 miles at a time) then a 6.0L PSD probably isn't for you. They like to be worked and not idled a lot. I had an 05 from brand new and it was going to be problematic, so I got rid of it. I've been told by a lot of Ford diesel techs that they seem to start having major problems at around 70,000 miles if they are going to have them. They are much more expensive to repair than the 7.3 was and do require more attention. They tend to shear oil quicker than 7.3's and 6.4's so regular oil changes are important. Use only Motorcraft filters and change fuel filters religiously at the recommended 15k intervals. I probably would not buy another 6.0L, but they aren't all bad. But they do not hold up to abuse like the 7.3 did. Things that can go bad that are expensive to repair are fuel injectors, high pressure oil pumps, egr coolers, oil coolers, and Fuel injection control modules, head gaskets, and turbos. Once it does go out of warranty, they are expensive to repair.

LOL.. I know right. forgot to mention crap mileage....13-14 MPG at best on this rig.

Some will say they get 18-20 plus, but do the research and see mine is the norm.

My truck is spotless. Motor everything looks bad a$$. if I knew how to post pics of all of it I would make your mouth druell, but truth is no mater how awesome it looks, the 6.0 sucks.

Forgot, I joined this site because I bought this 6.0. Once I've read all the threads I was scared, and wish I didn't buy it. I was hoping I got a great truck because everything you experts said to change out or delete was just done.

I was wrong... I'm on vacation for the next month and a half. Was to leave tuesday, but after changing the serpentine belt and having the AC re charged, I started blowing anti-freeze again. Boost is lifting my new heads and ARP studs.

Vacation is on hold. Sure wanted to show off my bad A$$ 6.0. worst part...I have about every recreation vehicle...atv's, snowmobiles, 5th wheel, dirt bikes, and a small boat. Never towed with this truck yet.

Sounds like they tow nice for those with a 6.0 that works.

I'm not happy, but maybe you could get one of the gooder ones.... If you spend enough time reading these threads you'll wonder who has the good ones.

Tuners can be murder on our trucks. If you want a tuner, get one that is custom (ie programs written specifically for our engine and transmission). Most folks say the SCT is the only way to go.

ATS is not the "premier" place for mods that you make it out to be. At least not for the tuner and head work. Lots better places to go for that.

55,000 miles on mine. Oil leaks were an issue but very dry since they fixed the bed plate. I don't think the 6.0L is the way to go if you want to modify it. It's a great engine, but needs special attention in regards to regular services. My local diesel mod shop said they will not mod that engine. If you want lots more HP and torque go with the other guys.

I have a fleet (40) of the 6.0L in E350's and they are solid for 400,000+ miles and we have lots more "hours" than the normal 6.0 because we never turn them off on a 10-12 hour day. In a typical day we idle them for 15-20 minutes at 20-30 stops per day.

That being said we are moving to the detroit diesel (branded as Mercedes deisel in Sprinters) due to the increase in fuel mileage. Hoping to get 500,000 out of these.

They may not be great, but you'd think for all the crap they make and sell they'd have it worked out.

Also, ATS and SCT tuners are the same. SCT makes the ATS E-Power. My tunes suck, and ATS for the past 2 moths have been giving me the run around saying SCT's tune site is down. Eric at Innovative is making my tunes now. Won't help much if I can't keep the heads strait and tight.

Sorry if I sound anti Ford....I'm not. Just Anti 6.0.

Seems like the Cummins guys are much happier when they mod the truck. When I am done with the 6.0L in this truck, I will think about installing a different engine. Maybe CNG.....that would be cool.

My last two trucks were 2002 2500 Dodge Diesel purchased new, gave it to my brother at 90k, only replaced one rear shock.

Bought a 2007 3500 Dodge Dielel purchased new. Never had any issues. Sold with 55k miles on it because the guy I got this truck from if a good friend and I knew about everything done to it. Figured after all his issues it was a perfect truck at a steal of a deal. He bought an 09 Dodge, and never used this truck for its Diesel capabilities. Basically a new truck with low mileage, and a crap loads of extras.

I tow about 80% of the time I'm operating my trucks. I haven't had a chance to tow with this one. My bros with new Dodge Diesels want to drive now. Better mileage and less wear and tear on my truck....who'c complaining.

If yours is the norm, I'm gonna keep mine forever. I get 15-17 daily in mixed driving and have gotten as much as 21.7 on a trip. 35k miles and not a problem at all.

saskdiesel is starting off with a positive reputation.
I had an 05.
Bed plate, EGR, 2 turbos, 4 injectors, head gaskets twice.
Since I like the SuperDuty platform I went to a gasser. After owning a 7.3 that gave me zero trouble I was very surprised and disappointed in my new diesel.
Needless to say the 6.4 isn't looking to good to me. Sometimes I find myself looking at 6.0's now and then and I suppose there are some good ones out there...
But why should I have to take a chance?

I guess my crap mileage can be because I live in CO. 7k elevation, but my other vehicles didn't have the issue.
