Engine Busted, No Clue

I have a 2000 F150 (this is my first post by the way...my brother turned me on to this site tonight). Supercrew...Lariat...5.4 Triton with 188K miles. Engine is out of truck. Original symptoms...misfiring...loss of power. Computer says misfire on 1 and 5. Shop guys can't tell me what the problem is. #1 plug was covered in oil...porcelain on plug chipped. Tested 3 times with random misfire. Pulled manifolds...valve covers...no obvious problems. Any thoughts?

If replacement...suggestions? Short block...long block? Any suggestions on where I can get a good deal on replacement, if needed. Heard great things about this forum!

Before the engine was pulled, what were the codes pulled? Were the cops tested? What was done to assume the engine was bad?

That description sounds like an injector failed and dumped fuel into that cylinder, which if you kept running it, could have caused hydrolock; that'll damage a piston like that. Or it could have been a combination of an injector and COP failure all at once.

Just depends on you, how deep are your pockets. A pro long block
will pop you about 2,800. you can go cheap or good.
