Stupid question maybe, but is tire balancing relative to the vehicle they're on?

Forgive me, no one ever really taught me about tire balancing 2 or 3 of the wheels on my truck are junkyard stock. Salvaged tires, rims, and all from whatever truck they happend to be on. They all have balance weights intact but I'm suddenly wondering if they need to be re-balanced. Anyone?

aurgathor is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
Unless the balancing is *on car* (very-very rare) it is always relative to the tire/wheel combo -- they take off the wheel, and attach it to the balancer for balancing.

if its been sitting and the tires are worn then it might be a good idea to have them rebalanced

I switched all my rides to bead balancing, never need to be spun as they re-balance every time I stop.

I do a lot off road 4x4, if I pick up mud or lose a chunk of rubber it balances automatically.
