Sudden oil pressure loss in 99 explorer

Yesterday my wife’s 99 Explorer suddenly lost oil pressure. It won’t even take the slack out of the timing chains now.
It has 144k on it and up until now has been a great vehicle. It has the 4L SOHC engine in it. Crank case if full. I am looking for ideas before I break down and take it to the dealer.
Really hoping we don't have a catastrophic failure on our hands.

Thanks,

Greg F.

Does it make a noise? The gauge is just a dummy gauge, so if it doesn't register, that doesn't mean that you aren't getting pressure.

Yes, plenty of timing chain noise. So far no bearing noise, but trust me, it has no oil pressure.
