screw-in oil galley plugs

i just bought a kit of srew-in plugs and i need to extract the old press in plugs.i guess they should come back out ,not in,but how do you grab them?they also have a 4 notch mark on the exit hole like a safety thing.any advice would be appreciated!

I drill a small (1/16") hole through the plug, then use a sheet-metal screw on the end of a slide hammer to remove them. You might be able to drill a bigger hole and pry them out with a sharpened screwdriver.

Not sure what you mean by "notches" unless the cast iron around the plugs was "staked" to make sure they didn't come out.

Seems to be the thread for your new plugs is a pipe thread (tapered), so you have to stop threading every so often and check the fit of your new plug. Otherwise, it may thread in too far, or not far enough.
