Water Seperator

Yesterday I was driving home when the water in fuel light came on. Today, I drained a little bit out and it looked like pure diesel. How much should I drain out?

when i do it i drain at least enough to clear the high water level alarm. i dump it into a 20 oz. coke bottle and let it sit for awhile and separate. then do a little more and let it sit and make sure theres no water left. i used to buy diesel from cone and other places but i changed to only chevron diesel and have gotten no water in over 6 months.

The "Water In Fuel " warning light will come on with 3.5 oz of water in the fuel and water separator under the drivers side. Ford recommends you drain the fuel filter and water separator once a month. Another good time to drain the fuel and water separator filter is during an oil change as you can dump the fuel into the oil drain catcher. Lastly, I purchase diesel fuel from large truck stops such as Flying J to avoid water in the diesel fuel.

My old 6.3L had water in fuel from an out of way service station. The repair bill was close to $2000.00 before that horror story was over. By sticking to high volume diesel stations you will avoid the water problem.

I have drained the separator 3 times trying to correct the problem. 1st time I drained it for about 25 secs like the video recommends, 2nd time I drained about 12 oz, and the 3rd time I drained about 1 pint and no luck. Any suggestions, I'm figuring I will just take it to Ford maybe a bad sensor. The truck runs fine.
