Parts will not be interchangable. Turbine size is different and one of the updates included more bearing surface area.

Either its no longer servicable or it isn't. Either way it belongs to the customer. How would you feel if a mechanic asked you if they could keep your turbo and all it might need is a good cleaning?
If extended warranty is paying for it either way, I would rather have a new turbo put on my truck than have my original one cleaned.
