AXracer has a good reputation on FTE. AXracer has a good reputation on FTE.
That's definitely a nice one! Rent a U haul truck and trailer 1 way put all the parts inside, load up the chassis and cab and head for home. I REALLY have no use for another truck, but that one would be a real temptation.

I have been helping my SO's son restore an 82 F-100 so he can get a vehicle and it is proving... enlightening... lol Lots of swearing and lots of fun! Its why I have decided to finally kick start my need fort he 56.

I really appreciate you looking at that 53 for me. I dont think that I will be getting that truck but if there is anything in the Glendale, AZ general area that you want looked at just let me know!

That Jaxed.com place is cool! Its a great tool.

Hey RicMan. Do you know how much Matt wants the truck for? I might be interested in it.

I wonder if that other guy really should sell his grandfathers truck. That is something that you just cant replace and the experience that he could have with his kids putting it back together is another thing without price. But if he is absolutely set of selling it I wont mind taking that burden off of his shoulders. lol

This is taking more time that I thought to find the "right" truck. I thought "well I'll take a couple weeks and look around"... NOT lol I want "the" truck not just any truck.

Thank you all for the advice and replies.

Once again kick starting the beast.

What is your guys/gals opinion on engines... I have found a truck just S of San Fran for 5500 with a 390 and C6 tranny in it. It also comes with another rolling chassis 390 and C6 tranny.

Do you think that is a better deal than a truck like this?

http://reno.en.craigslist.org/cto/1290060639.html

It has the 272 V8 in it and I think I like the originality of it. I am not going to be taking this thing to the race track but I do want to be able to pass people (and do it with meaning) on the freeway.

or should I get a truck like this

http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/cto/1293822277.html

and hope to buy it for $1000ish?

I plan on doing a complete frame down restoration as much as my abilities and all of your patience allows.

Primer hides alot of bad body work.........if ya want to do a frame off resto, I'd spend a lil more up front & get a better truck to start with. The more you spend up front, the less you'll spend in the end.

How hard is it to take off surface rust? THe truck in San Fran seems solid enough (from online) but I dont know anything about surface rust removal and it has surface rust all over. None of it looks like it goes through however.

Also. What do you guys think of tubular frames?

Unless you buy a truck that someone has already repaired the normal rusted out places (rear cab corners, sometimes front cowl lower corners, usually some rust through in the floors) you can count on fixing at least those items. Surface rust is not too difficult to deal with and can be media blasted by a professional or you could wire wheel it but that is a ton of labor. You can also media blast it yourself but it means investing in a decent compressor which you will no doubt need if you are planning a restoration. Buy the best condition sheet metal you can afford....it will save you money later, alot of money.
