Battery or Alternator

I just returned from a trip from Miami to New York City and back. On the way back i had a dead battery. AAA came and tested the battery and said i had a bad cell, the battery was still under warranty. I went to Sears and they pulled the battery and ran a complete test and found nothing wrong with the battery. The tech at Sears said he noticed the volts were not putting out much at a high idle up to 1500, he said around 13.1 -13.4. How that i am back in Miami I want to fix this but not sure where to go with it. Does the alternator sound like it is too low, on the trip back it never charged over 13.4.

Thanks
Dan

Yes, it's a little low. It should be around 14 to 14.5 volts. It may have a bad diode in it. If your battery has a dead cell, it will read around 10 volts instead of 12v. But a dead cell can be a intermittent problem.
