Hey need someones help here with this problem im having.. hopefully from someone that does them for a living... Granted its not a ford... but it is old and everyone had a disc drum setup at some point... brakes are brakes imo...
trucks an 87... problem im having is only 1 wheel is locking up... will barely have any pressure on the pedal and the passenger side wheel will just lock up like youve got full force pressure on the pedal.. it also doesnt happen every single time.. some days itll do it once and then not again for the rest of the time im in it.. or itll be fine then start and keep doing it... and other times it wont do it at all... had this same problem on another vehicle i owned but never figured out what the cause of it was on that one either...
shoes are fairly new.. replaced the wheel cylinders at the same time cuz the old one leaked (which was why the shoes were changed too).. problem was there even with the old wheel cylinders.. only one line going to the back and splits in a T-fitting at the rear end to both sides...
ive run out of ideas of where to look here..

Assuming the shoes are correctly installed and assuming there are no fluid leaks from wheel cylinders (which you have replaced) or from axle seals then my thoughts would be weak shoe return springs, wheel bearing play or distorted brake drum.

shoes are on correctly.. no leaks.. axel seals were replaced month after the wheel cyls twice (replaced both at the same time and got a bad new one so had to do it a 2nd time)
could be the springs.. prolly still the originals.. so ill look into those...
wouldnt the bearings and drum cause it every time? or could they do it intermittenly too?

Except if you have a Chevy with ABS. What do you have a S-10 or S-10 Blazer?
no abs and pickup... small cab and short bed...

not on the ones that are on there... when id changed the wheel cylinder they were saturated in the brake fluid from when the old one leaked... then the new ones again when the first axle seal leaked... i caught the 2nd time the new seal leaked before it got to the shoes... found that out when id pulled the drum off couple days later to re-adjust the star wheel.. i ended up nicking one of the seals when i put the shafts back in and thats what cause the new seal to leak.. and itd leaked on the opposite side than the first one which was mainly how i caught that one too... new shoes were bone dry still...

Pulled the drums, no obvious leaks, everything COVERED in brake dust like they had been dragging.
Put new pads on the front, cleaned all of the rear components with Brakleen, scuffed and de-glazed the pads and insides of the drums with a wire wheel.
Put it all back together and they worked GREAT.
For a coupla hours.
Washed the truck, went for a ride and they're locking up again.
No fluid inside the drums or on the shoes, no obvious leaks from the wheel cyls. Pads have +/- 1/4" of friction material remaining.
What do you guys think?
Should I just "bite the bullet" and install the shoes/wheel cyls/spring kit I have on the bench?
Could be a bad rear flexi brake pipe not allowing fluid to return. Could also be a bad RABS valve module.
I think, if it was me, I would replace the rear flexi hose and if that did no good I would use a short length of brake pipe to bypass the RABS module.
