I just use the MC filters - convenient enough just to pick em up at Wal-Mart. Using of of the new aFe filters right now, not sure I could justify paying $22 a filter long term though.

Been lurking a little while now, just putting together a list of things I'd like to do to the truck... Finally getting back to work now, so I'll have to means to get some of it done.

Is it possible that the MC FL 1995 filter at WalMart is lesser quality than a FL 1995 you would buy at a regular auto parts store? reason I ask is that WalMart has dealings with lots of suppliers to make stuff just for them-like the 5 quart oil jugs-never seen these anywhere but WalMart-and tires for instance the Goodyear Wranglers-they say "Radial" on the sidewall when they come from Walmart but when they are bought at a regular tire store they just say "Goodyear Wrangler" same for the Uniroyal Liberators-I think these are a WalMart exclusive......

I have always heard that the "super" stores tell the supplier what they will pay and the supplier makes the product for that price. This info comes from repair places that service the products.

Several part stores I go to has the MC filters the same price as wally
On another note Napa charges about $5 more for fuel filters than the dealer does

The cheapest place I found the fuel filter for our 7.3 is usdieselparts.com They have the Racor which is the same filter sold at the dealership without Ford's name on it. It was $23.81 including shipping the last time I checked. I plan on buying my fuel filters there.

Another option for some great Donaldson filters:

http://store.airflo.com/filters.html

It's hard to find them sold singularly, that isn't what Donaldson is about. But they sure do put a lot of research in filtration. They don't worry about grippy surfaces on the bottom of the filter and marketing.

Still looks it's the same. FWIW, I picked one up from Advance Auto a couple weeks ago for $26. Can't remember if it was MC or not, think it might've been.

On another note, can't believe the price on the fuel filters for the 6.4s...

It is my understanding that Racor makes the fuel filters for Ford Powerstrokes. I have seen the filter side by side and I can't tell any difference between them other than the cost. I have used the racor fuel filters for some time without any issues.

That's correct. I have a MC in mine right now. The Racor I got from Geno's Garage for about $18 is the same filter.
