Oil leak/Bed Plate

Ford dealer put oil leak detector in crankcase a few weeks back and said bring truck back and they would black light to find a small oil leak. I did so yesterday. Seems the leak is at the Bed Plate and they have to pull engine to replace the gasket. Truck is going in 7/8/09. Has anyone had an experience like this before?

They did mine a year ago Feb. and so far dry as a bone. Took 3 days and my dealer said that they did it without pulling the engine or cab.

How did they do that ?

I would think the engine would have to come out.

I noticed a little oil on the forward end of the bell housing. Dealer checked with dye and black light. They pulled the engine, mounted it to a stand, and replaced the bed plate gaskets. They also replaced the rear mail seal while in there and steam cleaned the engine. 6 gaskets, 2 seals, 5qt trans fluid, adhesive, and dye. Total was $1750 on warranty. No TSBs referred. This was about 2 weeks ago.

are you saying the warranty covered it? or it is under warranty, and you had to pay?
Other than the drip, how big of a concern is this?

Just passing on what th SA told me. Truck was done when I got there so I couldn't verify anything except that it hasn't leaked in 17 months, knock on wood.

My vehicle is still under an extended warranty but I should think this would fall under the engine/powertrain warranty as well.

My Ford dealer (Smithtown, Long Island, NY) indicates that the engine will have to come out. Whether it is covered under the original engine or my expensive extended warranty is of no concern as my cost is zero. My truck has been in for various other problems since bought new. If these problems continue I will be looking for a new truck when the extended warranty runs out in 2011. I pull a 5,000 lb TT and the way the new F-150 is built and what it can tow I might consider it as the replacement. Mike

Did my bed plate while in the engine. Not something you want to pay for out of warranty. Pulling the engine is the long hard way. I would take it to someone else.
