Alrighty...I owe a few of y'all 09 guys an apology

So awhile back, I posted this thread.

http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/81...new-truck.html

I still have my stance there, but a heck of alot softer
I'll be damned though if I don't owe a bunch of y'all an apology. I didn't give the 09 the credit it deserves...which is something you guys were all over

I am currently driving a 4.6 3v XLT Screw rental.
If you want to read a good horror story and learn why I have that rental

http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/84...a-problem.html

anywhoo, I got the XLT this afternoon...and what a dream it is to drive. Ford took a badass 04-08 setup and truly improved the heck out of it. For the past few weeks I've been shopping for a 09+ Mustang GT...and since actually driving this truck...gotta say screw the Stang, I'm in the market for 09 FX4 now to replace my old 2006 FX4
I had previously test driven a 09 Lariat...but it was just a quickie around the block

My biggest surprise that 4.6 3v. Between it and the 6 speed, that truck is very quick and nimble. I was expecting crap performance like the 04-08 4.6 2v gives you. The 4.6 3v almost produced 5.4 3v performance levels from the previous generation.

anyways, Good Night everyone. again, sorry 'bout some of that

Well Tylus that's quite a recommendation. How do you feel about the cosmetics?

dash is a little strange, but it's almost identical to my Expy...so I'm fairly used to already

all the buttons and knobs seem to be in the same general spots. the biggest change is the A/C and Radio controls. Whole new setup. Haven't really played with the rental much...so not sure if I like the Radio setup or not

I'm on vacation right now, so sometime this week I'm probably going to go visit and negotiate on a FX4. Looking at pricing though, I'll have to get a Scab or drop down to a XLT Screw.

Not ideal, but I thing I'd be fine in a Scab. I do have the monstrosity in my signature after all

Let us know how the fuel mileage works out with that 4.6 3v, if you get the chance to figure it and don't mind. I haven't driven a 4.6 3v yet, but would like to just for kicks. I think it has potential to be a great engine.

BTW, I couldn't find anything in your old thread worth apologizing over. Not trying to revive that argument, but I personally would call the '09 an "evolved" '04-'08. There's nothing wrong with that IMO.

Ford really did their homework and got a Homerun on the 09's IMO.

besides, if you had seen my 2006 FX4, I think you can see what I've got in mind for the 09 if I pick one up...pics in my Gallery.

no sync...and it's got a small gas tank. I've already burned 1/8 a tank off just by farting around...so MPG's wouldn't be realistic.

It doesn't have the balls of a 5.4 3v, but I was very surprised. The 4.6 3v is worlds better than the 4.6 2v

well it's about time you got around to really driving the new truck over the previous 04-08 model! Now you know why I left my 05 behind.

Please do. This forum is kinda lame. We could use more guy willing to mod. My vote is for the scab FX4.

reset the MPG thingy and was being nice driving around this evening.

with A/C on at Max setting the MPG thingy was saying 15.8-16.3 city mpg at 35-40 mph.

not bad. My Expy only does 14 mpg in that same stretch of road.

before I decided to be good, I ran her out a bit. THat 4.6 3v loves to Rev up. It has some real balls once you get some RPM's in there. The exhaust also likes to sing. Sounds like it has an aftermarket setup on there

This is good to hear about the 4.6l 3V. As Ive mentioned (over and over lol) that I want an FX4 Supercrew. But if the deal isnt there, I MAY go to the STX4X4 with the 4.6l 3V. I like the black grille in the FX4's and STX's better then the giant chrome grille on the XLT.

So again I know Tylus had the 5.4 in his 06, and Ive got the 5.4 in my 08, so its good to know it wouldnt be a huge difference. I just wish IF I had to get the STX 4X4, I could get it with the manuel transfer case. Currently, if you want the manuel transfer case in the STX 4X4, you have to get the 4.6l 2V

I'm too lazy to look it up, but is Sync an option on the 09 XLT? Trust me on this; if it is an option on the XLT, you might want to look into getting it. Now that I have it in my car, I really REALLY wish I had it in my truck.

think it is.

but I'm buying another FX4 or nothing. the FX4 offers too many amenities exterior and interior that put an XLT to shame IMO

I did alot of shopping today. Absolutely no luck finding anyone willing to sell a truck. I had made a post about it earlier...but looks like someone deleted it.

anyways, all of the Dealers are sitting on their trucks. I made an offer on a 09 Black/Grey stepside today. $39,020 MSRP. the absolute best I could get them to concede was $42,020 (MSRP+Adjusted Market value...aka Island Fees).
so then I said I would just use an X-plan on the truck. Takes it down to $35,000 instantly.

Their response...we won't honor the X plan at this time...all 3 Dealerships told me that.

1 of them has at least 20 F-150 4x4's sitting on the lot...and the Manager had the nerve to tell me that his inventory couldn't support an X-plan sale at this time.
I hate to say it...but I'm going to check out a Dodge Ram TRX-4 on Sunday. Chrysler is trying to move their stuff. I am a Ford guy through and through, but I ain't gonna put of with this bull****. I'll take my business elsewhere
