Oil Filter Adaptor Kit Go or No?- 6 Cyl 215 1952

I can't figure out if I should send this kit back or not...

The adaptor doesn't screw in where the old centerbolt used to. (The cover is long gone.) It looks like the centerbolt used to screw in though the center of a 1-1/8" hex fitting.

My shop manual doesn't show if the 1-1/8" holds the pump together or not, plus, the pad to adaptor plate clearance is not looking too promising. But the adaptor plate *IS* the right diameter.

(The threading on the oil filter adaptor, opposite the spin-on-filter side, is large and looks close to a garden hose thread.)

Should I unscrew the 1-1/8" hex to see it the adaptor fits? Then see if the plate compresses it's gasket? Or should I send it back?

Thanks... I'm trying to be patient and do things slowly, asking people who know, instead of breaking two things for every one I fix. (The usual rate :P)

Yes, I think that you remove the hex fitting that you have and replace it with the gasket , the plate, and then the threaded adaptor.

I got so frustrated with trying to get my gallery to work I bought a membership to post pictures. I think it is a premeditated conspiracy!

I don`t know, guess it`s to ''freshen up'' the site or for more variety.
I don`t like it that much either, at times I have go to the More smilie page to find the one I want.
I`ve got an old adapter kit but I might have to buy the kit if I can`t find that rubber gasket.......

Morris, if all else fails to locate that gasket then go get an oil filter for a canister oil filter. It has the same gasket. About $5 at Advance Auto Parts. Tom

That would be about $ 10.00 for Morris; ……..he lives in the land of the expensive slow socialized medical system.

Yep, it’s the same gasket as in the canister filter, you might find a gasket in someone’s junk at a swap meet or old shop?

Your right about the $10...LOL!
I`m sure I can come up with that flat gasket, I may even have one laying around if I look long and hard enough.

It won't budge! I really don't want to use lead hammers and blowtorches. (At least I read how to preserve the paint with some water.) Sorry, I hadn't planned on getting frustrated or stopped this time around.

Having trouble here, there is only 1/8" sticking out and I have started to round two edges.

I could use some advise. My electric impact driver will not fit in the F-2's engine compartment. I may pull the engine, but right now I really want to get this Oil filter taken care of, buy the battery and start the 215. A really good mechanic said he'd help me once I got to a certain point... That's all I need to take care of.

Should I try to track down a new (old) oil filter housing and do it the old way? Do any of those "Turn rounded bolt" tools actually work? Which ones? Should I try a torch? Propane or Acetal? Would a torch destroy the oil pump in the 215? I am open to any suggestions. WD-40 and PB Blaster have not helped, neither has some lead hammer taps.

Sure sounds like trouble. The only thing that I can thing of is a six point socket (not 12) with the front edge ground flat so that the socket grabs more nut. Sorry.

Thanks Old F1, the ground six point socket finally did the trick - What a relief! The adaptor and filter fit perfectly and they're ready to go.

It feels so good when things come together.
