It is my understanding that an "invoice price" that a dealer may show you may
not, in fact, represent what they actually paid for it. If you're serious about
buying a new car, I'd go to Consumer Reports magazine (or
www.consumerreports.org) ; for something like $10-$15 (per vehicle) you can get
a detailed listing from them telling you exactly what the manufacturers charge
the dealers, what incentives the dealers are getting, stuff like that.

Car dealers are in business to make money, be fair to them. They're certainly not
going to LOSE money on ANY deal....

C'mon are you that afraid? The government is basically giving you a fat coupon! I advise you take advantage the cash for clunkers if you can. I know I will and I'll also keep on driving my f250 @ 8mpg and my 65 mustang w/ 351c conversion @ 10mpg. I'll just jump in my VW when it's time for a 300mi road trip and get 30mpg.

Seriously this is huge. My 93 grand cherokee is worth $1200, maybe. The fed want's to give me $4500 for it towards a new car and on top of that dealers are offering big deals like below invoice pricing. So if I'm smart about it I can go get a new car for $4500 under invoice plus any other incentives I can squeeze out of the dealer. Makes sense if you are looking for a new car. If not leave it alone. You'll be able to keep your clunker as long as you want as will I.

Don't cry about it, see this as an opportunity and you'll be happier.
If you lived in California, you would see it for exactly what it is.

johnboy427 is starting off with a positive reputation.
I might do it but dang apparently my trucks are too old to be clunkers. The whole thing is just another stupid step deeper into debt, mabey he is hoping every one will go buy new GMs so he won't look as dumb for buying into that mess.
