I heard they want to outlaw dark colored paint on cars, to minimize A/C load in the sun. Another proposal, mandatory home energy audits (goodbye fourth amendment).

"Nero fiddled while Rome burned"...these bureaucrats are going to keep fiddling around, until the likely economic collapse (Rome burning, figuratively) starts to look like a good thing, by comparison.

My fourth of July "freedom" rant.
You aren't the only one who thinks like that

My '80 F250 is not a daily driver for me. It is more of a tool, a toy, and I figure I'm recycling by using an old truck for what little I need a truck for personal use for instead of buying a newer one. What worries me is this thing is so far from being smogable that I may be forced to junk it instead of "stimulating" my local economy by continuing to tinker with it.

I'd like to put an exhaust on it but do I put $500 or so into that only to have it go down the drain if I have to smog it later? And so on....

Suspension bushings, fix up the brakes nice, maybe some paint are all things I'd spend money at local businesses on that I'm not so eager to do now.

I figure worst case scenario - my truck will not smog. Remanufactured engine? $2000 give or take. Rebuild it myself? A bit cheaper! That is still a heck of a lot cheaper than 15k or so for a new car which would be no frills at that price to boot!

Way I see it if I weren't retired, and working now I'd be afraid to commit to 4 or 5 years worth of payments when I don't know if I'll have a job in 6 months with the way this economy is going.
And besides that if fuel economy is such a major concern you can find a good running used economy car for under $2,000. Even if the used car doesn't quite get the fuel economy of a new 09 model you'll still have plenty of gas money every month because you won't have a car payment !

My mom sold her car to the state as a gross pulluter that wouldnt pass smog.
Was a 94 hyndai that had 175k miles on and was still running fine just wouldnt pass smog.

They gave her a $1000 for it which was prob more then it was worth.

Well she had to take it to a wrecking yard to turn it in and she sat there and cried they crushed it on the spot and said that was required and they could not take a single part off it.

Well that was the first new car she ever bought is why she cried now I have her in an 2001 ford explorer and she likes that better everything works and she lives in the mountains so its higher up and better for her.

Face it guys we have a socialist administration in office. Great for welfare recipients and lazy people who don't work and want handouts. The only thing Obama wants to drill is our wallets.

Yes we are becoming what our forefathers DID NOT want. Just start taking alittle of our freedom through stupid laws and programs like this clunker crap. This country is more socialist now than ever before. We the people need to take our country back! At least here in Fla, ole Govoner Christ is now on a true snake hunt(pythons in Everglads) and has not forward his vehicle inspections(like Kalifornia)......

Obama seems to be taking a lot of vacations....
marthas vineyard is up next on his list.

and socialism is how this country is actually run...

who owns the power companies, gas companies, and water companies that power, heat and provide water to your house?
the correct answer is the government.

...thats socialism 101 right there

Obama to Blame

We as a society have to ask why is he in office. How many Americans did not or would not vote in the election. Everyone complains, buy people don't act. This will make our forefathers roll over in their graves, before a black president will. After 9-11 everyone wanted to go to war. Well, how many people acted, did they join the military, no. The burden of war falls on the average person who has nothing to gain from the war. I am a Vietnam Special Forces veteran, who saw the same thing. Like the song says, ' A little less talk and alot more action. All this crap about MJ. Hell, I had more sympathy over the death of Robert McNamara. For you young people on this forum. Say what you mean and mean what you say. Make yourself counted. Don't be a member of the herd mentality. Thanks

can't help but laugh

I can't help but laugh reading some of these comments. Nobody in a black suit is going to come take away your f250 or mine because of the cash for clunkers program or any program that follows it. Not gonna happen. It's funny how people are generally so afraid, that any mention of something like this causes them to freak out and take it personally and think their freedom is in jeopardy. C'mon are you that afraid? The government is basically giving you a fat coupon! I advise you take advantage the cash for clunkers if you can. I know I will and I'll also keep on driving my f250 @ 8mpg and my 65 mustang w/ 351c conversion @ 10mpg. I'll just jump in my VW when it's time for a 300mi road trip and get 30mpg.

Seriously this is huge. My 93 grand cherokee is worth $1200, maybe. The fed want's to give me $4500 for it towards a new car and on top of that dealers are offering big deals like below invoice pricing. So if I'm smart about it I can go get a new car for $4500 under invoice plus any other incentives I can squeeze out of the dealer. Makes sense if you are looking for a new car. If not leave it alone. You'll be able to keep your clunker as long as you want as will I.

Don't cry about it, see this as an opportunity and you'll be happier.
