Never had a car payment other than the first little cash to buy my clunkers. I would rather drive them than make the payments on some death trap car.

A clunker costs $0.00 per month to own.

A Focus could cost you, IDK, $300 a month on payments or $3600 a year. Plus, increased insurance costs due to needing collision and probably comprehensive insurance coverage vs. liability only for the clunker ($600/year).

A Focus saves you $1.50/day in fuel costs if you commute 20 miles a day to work. That works out to a savings of approx. $390/yr in gas.

Clunker $0.00/yr to own plus $390 in gas.
Focus $3600/payments plus $600/yr insurance equals $4200/yr.

So, after a year CARS costs you money you probably didn't have to start with.

Lets see... I just bought my grandfather's truck for $500, spent $1200 on parts to get it running again and now the government is offering me $4,500 to crush it and buy a "new" fuel efficient car. Uh...no.

OK - Lets say that after cashing in the truck, I'm still left with a $20,000.00 loan. That money would buy me over 6,666 gallons of gas at $3.00 a gallon. That is 66,660 miles of driving at 10 mpg. I don't see this program getting many takers. If a person can afford to buy a new car, but they elect to drive a "clunker", they probably are happy with what they drive. On the other hand, someone who is driving an old car because it is all that they can afford, will probably not be able to benefit from the program.

i think thats their intention, since when do THEY care about what happens to the little people...therefore, ill be sticking with my "clunker" as they call it.

...so Where are they getting this 3500-4500 dollars?
it's either imaginary or our own tax dollars.
So... quit wasting out time with something so useless, and find a way to fix our economy in a smart way.

Yes.
I am against this.
It actually got started in the UK, where it had little success by the way.
I WONDER WHY!!

I think that this program is a "safe" way for the government to say that they are doing something to help the environment without having to actually do something that might get expensive. I wonder if a new Bentley that gets 10mpg qualifies as a "clunker".

no, they just go directly into the "tree killing" category with a 50,000 dollar gas guzzler fee.
...but it DOES get the best mileage for a car in it's class... because it's the only on in it's class!

Clunker is reserved primarily for us truck drivers.

...I see some prejudice in this program!

well at least they are trying..... I tried harder at graduating high school than they are at "saving" our environment and economy though.

so I think a C for effort is due.
but nothing else.
