Who the hell is "Old Miss."??

I think anyone with a brain can clearly see that he has an 80/86 bed and that LMC's POS tailgate for that year doesn't even come close to fitting correctly.

The original poster (Mark) knows enough about these trucks to ensure that he ordered an 80/86 tailgate for his 80/86 truck.

I'm not trying to be a dick (this time) but spend some time here first and get to know some people before you make rudimentary comments such as the one you did.

'80's tailgate

I have enjoyed this the board for information and advice. As a recent member and owner of 4 f-XXX since the '80's I'm interested in soliciting and passing on my experiences with these trucks to keep them on the road. Enough said..

Sorry for the omission, from the posting and the location of the scouting trips I made the connection the poster was from Mississippi.. It's a southern thing. Old Miss.

That's kinda cool.
You should fill out the rest of your profile so people can see where you're from.

Littleton., thanks for the response. A family member moved there with MM and loved it! What a great place to live. I wheel in the sand and "black ice" in the Mid -Atlantic. Briefly, I have owned: (1) '77 F-150, (1) '78- F150, (1) '85-F150, (3)'86 F-250, ( 1) '90 Bronco. FWD the west is better unless beach fishing....

Old Miss. simply put, your bed corners as pictured should align with a "correct replacement panel" not what you received. Hope this helps.
I did very much order and receive the correct part. Just that the quality is horrid and it's not even close to fitting/lining up properly. (as evidenced in the pictures) The passenger side could be marginally acceptable, however the drivers side was much worse and in the pictures makes it look better than it does in person beleive it or not. The pictures won't show that after nearly three hours how it still won't open/close properly, if at all. The handle (which whas incidentally ordered at the same time for this specific tailgate) won't open without scraping the sheetmetal on the tailgate and wasn't sitting in the opening in square.

Bottom line, I did order the correct part for my truck from LMC, but it's simply so poorly made that I can't use it. Oh, and my screen-name here is: mds47588. Not from, but live in Mississippi though.

And lastly, UPS just picked it back up (10 mins ago) so it's on the way back to Kansas.

I'm sorry for your trouble. I was looking at your rig in your sig and it looks like a great looking truck. What are you going to paint it? Blue? Anyway I hope you find a good tailgate. I just can't believe you can't find an acceptable tailgate from a junkyard?

Bill. Its that whole North of the border thing again. Unless you have seen snow, you have no idea what salt does to a truck. I so want to move south but i cant take the heat

I've seen snow twice in my life. Once when I was a little boy in Houston, we had a freak snow fall, and once this past winter, we had a little snow that came down at 2AM. I woke up and went outside.. Well, I fell outside. I took one step on the metal steps and landed on my butt.

If you head down south, stay away from the gulf. Hurricanes are sent straight from hell.

I'm looking forward to seeing some real snow this year.

Tail gate profile

"mds 47588" no toe stepping intended. For the record, I did not ass-u-me you ordered the incorrect part. Having used this site for reference any one stumbling upon this thread for future reference, as I have used this site, may resolve a similar issue without further questions. Having owned several of these "used" trucks in prior years you never know what you will run into either from a "split model year" or prior "repairs" . "6pack".

6CylBill, your trucks specs make me yearn for the "gold old days". Why can not a F-250 with the appropriate gearing/transmission/transfer case be made, possibly with a turbo like some older IH tractors? Had a I6 with a Offey/ 4bbl - best of both worlds (v8) not to mention access! "6pack".

Katrina's highest recorded wind gust was 135mph, and that occured here in my town of Poplarville. What's more impressive is that I'm about 50 miles + inland from the open gulf. My work is based out of New Orleans and I see first-hand how vulnerable not just the city itself is, but the entire region as a whole is to the next (when, not if) storm that comes along.

Thanx on the compliments and yes...it will be some sort of a shade of blue when completed. Even contemplated getting it painted to match my car...dunno yet.
