Good Morning turned bad

I went to the local Discount Tire this morning to do a routine re-balance of theContinental Contitrac Suv tires that came with the truck when we bought it. When we bought the truck, it had looked like the previous owner had just put those tires on the truck (or the dealership) prior to us buying it with 28k miles on it. Just rolled over 86,900 miles, but the Conti's still measured at a healthy 7/32", so I was just watching along happy I was one of the first into the bay and was going to be off on my way soon.

Then I saw two techs looking over 1 tire, then 2 others drawing lines down the center of the treads. Thought to myself, not a good sign, and immediately started checking Tirerack's pricing on tires. Sure enough tech came in, talked to the sales guy and he approached me saying that 1 Conti had a split in the tread that was showing what looked to be the belt underneath and the 2 others had fairly deep cracks running around the perimeter or the tire tread as well.
So I decided to take the safer than sorry route and replace all four tires with some Yoko Geolanders.

So far they seem like great tires and have gotten an immediate workout in the rain. Can definitely tell they are quieter along with smoothing over bumps better, but it still rides like a truck
. Ah well, I had been waiting to replace those things since we bought the truck, but I'd have preferred it to be on my terms. Oh well, and sorry about the bold...

I feel your pain. I got to work one morning about 2 months ago and noticed one of my front tires had a fairly nice sized 'X' cut in the sidewall and the sidewall was starting to bubble out. I still had a decent amount of tread left on the Kelly Safari's, but I was going on a long trip that weekend and didn't want to take any chances. I started calling around to local tire dealers while online at Tire Rack and every place I called said I had to replace all 4 tires because if any of the tires were not the same (diameter, width, etc) the computer would be led to believe that particular tire was turning faster than the others and the transfer case would be constantly engaging & disengaging, thinking the tire was slipping or spinning. Not what I wanted to hear. So, I ended up getting the Uniroyal Laredo Cross Country's. I was really upset to see the Kelly's go (they were an incredible tire in all conditions). The Uniroyals have been a fantastic tire so far. I hit a lot of torrential downpours that weekend and the tires handled it very well. Very nice tire, IMO.
