what color is your truck? I have painted some of my motors same color as the truck. looks kinda cool. this one a 5.0, but result would be same if 4.9
Charlie, that looks REALLY good.

It definitely won't be chevy orange. I'll leave that for the chevy motor guys. Nothing against it just don't want it on my engine.
I'm leaning towards ford blue and ford gray.
Someone said something about chrome valve cover. Is there a good quality one out there or are they the thin cheaper ones? I don't want to put something on it that's going to leak later.
The valve covers I have seen are from pictures on this site of rebuilt 300's. I doubt the men who built these would have put a valve cover on the motor if they thought it was going to leak. I would search around and see where good quality ones are.
Hopefully someone here has used a chrome valve cover and can chip in. I want to put a chrome one on mine if I ever rebuild it.
The truck I will eventually be putting a built 300 into is is basically solid ford blue already. I plan on getting some POR15 in the same blue and painting the tranny, TC, bellhousing, frame, inside of cab, engine compartment with it. So I want a color scheme for the engine that contrasts well with the blue that the rest of the truck will be. I'm thinking about doing the entire engine solid black, with all new bolts, and only a very few, small, blood-red, highlights on say the CLIFFORD on the valve cover, intake, and maybe somewhere on the fan. I"m not sure.
But anyway, F-250 restorer took a clifford valve cover and blasted off the black powder coating then had it chrome plated. Looks really good, and the clifford cover is the heaviest, stiffest valve cover you can buy for these engines.

yeah, got mine on ebay from cowboy parts. cost $23, + $12 shipping. I painted the lifter cover alumi blast, then clear coat. I saw on here somewhere some one had a lifter cover chromed. looked real sharp, but beyond my budget

I personally don't really like chrome much on an engine, but that's only me. Although it does look good , and would look better than a funky color, I think a painted valve cover in a well matched paint scheme looks the best.

yeah i do. it fit really well, don't leak, and so far just wipe it off. it came with the rubber grommets, and the oil fill/breather cap. stock pcv fit right in. the stock valve cover leaked like a river
