How come they sell wheel bearing races(cups) spearate from the bearings. I would think if one or the other was bad it would warrent both parts to be replaced. ie if the cups was shot, the bearing rollers my look ok but could be elliptical or tapered.

 

It's because the cones and cups are used in different combinations in different vehicles. You are correct, if either is bad, replace both.
