Likes PARK - opposition to Drive

I've had my EX for about 4 yrs, its always been hard to put in gear from park. Normally I put a bunch of pressure on the brake and it will go into gear. Once it finally drops into gear it typical makes a small "click" noise. As in something dropped into alignment or place. Don't really think its tranny related - no too much to look at under the dash except for the cylinder that's attached to the brake.

Thoughts?

It shouldn't take much pressure on the brake to disable the shifter lock out solenoid. I believe there is a detent bar and roller at the column, but the detent pins in the transmission really should do the work of locking the selector in place.

Does it move freely in the other gears once it's out of park (say drive to neutral to reverse and back to drive)? It could be a voltage or solenoid problem on the brake lockout.

we just replaced the brake on-off switch/interlock because of a short, the cylinder you are seeing under the dash.

instead of applying "a bunch of pressure" to the brake pedal, try applying pressure to the left side of the brake pedal.

alternatively, turn key to run position, just before engaging the starter, and place transmission in neutral. start the x with foot on the brake and after x starts place lever in reverse/drive.
