Hello,
I am new to the site, and have a question for anyone with a lifted truck. I have had several Ford 4x4s, but I just acquired a 95 F250 with a 4" lift. This is my first lifted truck, and I was looking around under it, and noticed the front drive shaft was less than a 1/4" from the trans crossmember so it looks like it would hit if the front end was ever up in the air. Has anyone else had this problem, and what is the correct fix? I could cut and modify the crossmember, but if there is a easier fix, I would rather go that route.
As 75F350 mentioned, it is relatively easy to do some surgery on the cross-member.
When I installed a lift on a '95 F250 I ended up installing an F-350 front driveshaft that had a double cardan joint at the transfer case. This allowed use of the standard cross-member and fixed that severe driveshaft angle at the transfer case.
If you do this modification you would also have to swap the yoke that comes out of the front of the transfer case with an F-350 yoke. This is not a very difficult job once you have all of the parts lined up.
Thanks for the replies, I believe for now, since I don't plan to do any severe 4 wheeling, I will do some modifications to the crossmember. It will give me a good excuse to get out the welder. I will wait on changing the shaft as eventually, I would like to get rid of the TTB 50 and replace it with a straight 60
