Why not make one long continuous chat instead of making new ones every month?
in the end, all you're doing is taking up space for other threads

It breaks things up and makes it easier to find a post when it is in a month rather than trying to find something in a year long post..

Plus it is easier on the servers..

They used to split them after 300 posts... That was a real pain..

yup... one of the other forums i use to sit on had long continious threads... would have 4-5K posts in them... they found out that the huge file sizes were the biggest cause of why the server was running so cruddy... once they started making new ones periodically the problems went away...
