Roxbury Township, Mr. John J Kempf (81) died on July 29, 2009 at the Andover Nursing Home. He was born in Jersey City and lived in North Bergen before moving to Mount Arlington 45 years ago. He served in the U S Army during the Korean War and was the Past Commander of the North Bergen VFW. For more than 60 years he worked in many textile mills around Jersey City and Hoboken and for a while he was the owner of the Succasunna Shell Gas Station on Route 10. After his retirement he was a school bus driver for the Byram Bus Company and the Laidlaw Bus Company for 13 years. He was also an avid photographer and had a love for all animals.
Mr. Kempf is survived by his wife Lois A (Godfrey) of 54 years, and by his 2 children; Karina (and Steven) Dickinson of Wharton and by John (and Cynthia) Kempf of Myrtle Beach, S.C. He also leaves his 10 grandchildren; Kaleen, Brianna, and Robyn Dickinson, John (and Maria), Bradley, Lindsey, Brandon, and Lehanna Kempf, and Dianne (and Jeff) Shatwell, mother of grandson John Kempf and Tim and Kim Shatwell, his 4 great grandchildren; Julien and Isabella Kempf, Eli Dickinson, and Emerson Kempf, his sister-in-law Dorothy Kempf of Toms River, several nephews and a niece. He was predeceased by his sisters; Evelyn Komorowski and Betty Krause and brother Steven Kempf.
Friends may visit at the Davis & Hepplewhite Funeral Home, 96 Main St, Succasunna (973-584-7264) on Saturday from 10-12 am. The Funeral Service will be held at 12 noon at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the Andover Sub Acute Rehab Center II, Alzheimer’s and Dementia Program, at Andover Nursing Home, 99 Mulford Road, Andover, NJ 07821 or to your local animal shelter.
