nope. just have everything on standstill for the holiday week. state regulations say you can not work the day before or after the holiday. since the 4th is on sat, the state calls friday the holiday, so that means you can't work thursday.
so we decided there was not much you can do in 3 days, and shut down. tuesday i moved furniture to set up the field office for the large turnpike paving job starting in 2 weeks, and today i did a 3 hour lane closure for the state fiber optics contractor so they could access an overhead sign.

I didn't realize that NJ did things that way with regard to the holidays. I think PADOT's considering tomorrow the holiday but I do know contractors are working today (since I saw them earlier working on the highway near me...)

well Bill, technically you can work till 12 noon the day before. but since you can not do mainline lane closure till 10 am, if you have to be off the road by noon, you only have about 1 hour to work before you need to start picking up the lane closure. so it ain't worth it. as it is, we only have the lane from 10 to 3. so on a normal day, you are only allowed to work for 4- 4 1/2 hours.

that is why almost everything is done at night.
night mainline closure hours are from 7 or 8pm till 5 am.
that gives you a full 8 hours on the roadway.

I used to do a lot of work in Jersey - building parking garages mainly - and whenever I'd travel out there I noticed how much stuff was done at night. With the sheer volume of traffic on the routes I spent most of my time on (GSP, NJTP, I-78, I-80, etc.) I can understand why. Daytime travel was always a nightmare...lol...I can't imagine a construction crew trying to work those routes in daytime.

So are they paying you for your time off?

Tom have you ever seen this truck before?

an old friend built all their equiment and was part owner in the company till the day he died 5 years ago.

ok. I'm back. sorry Sean. are you looking to buy it??
if do, do you want me to look it over and take pictured of anything??
as i was posting my reply about highpoint garage, ii got a phone call that someone stopped at the shop with cash in hand to buy a 93 cougar i had out there, so i had to drop everything and fly up there.
then as i was finishing the deal, on of the guys was coming in to get his paycheck, and got rear-ended, wiping out hit car, so i gave him a ride home.

yea. he is fine. the exhaust got crushed on his car, and it would not rev over 20 mph. so we left it in the shop, and they are gonna cut the pipes off tomorrow and weld some new pieces back on.
