Cam / Lifter Assembly Help

I have a 77 351m motor that I want to put an RV cam in so it has some really good low end torque. It doesn't need to be wild or crazy. It will be a daily work truck and would pull a 16ft trailer. I would prefer not to modify the push rods or heads with the excepction of maybe upgrading the springs. Any ideas on what to get????

You should always use the matched springs for the cam. You will need to check lifter preload. Most aftermarket cams have a different base circle so you may need different length push rods. Sometimes you can get away with just shimming the rocker stands.

I noticed that some sets come with LIfters and the cam and some sets with lifters, cams and springs. How would you know what needs modified? Where do you get the new pushrods from?

In general, you would put the #1 cylinder's valve train in with light checking springs on the valves. Get the preload set right then check how the rocker tip is sweeping the valve tip. Then you will know if you need a different length push rods. Summit Sells push rods & length checkers.
