460 Flywheel help

I have a 1975 F250 2wd 4sp with a 1978 460. The starter hits a dead spot on the flywheel every few starts so I'm suspecting a broken tooth on the flywheel. I haven't pulled the inspection cover yet. I was researching flywheels and need help in identifying what I need. I see 460 flywheels from 176 - 184 teeth, internal and external balance. How do I figure out what I need?

banjopicker66 is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE. banjopicker66 is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
The 460 was internally balanced up to '79. 1980 and later 460s are externally balanced. To make sure, look for a counterweight between the harmonic balancer and the block - it will look sorta like a hatchet head.

garbz2 has a good reputation on FTE. garbz2 has a good reputation on FTE.
The internal balance 385 series shares flywheels with the internally balanced FE.

Mid-year 1979 is when Ford changed the 460, not 1980.

The block's casting number is: D9TE-6015-AB which uses a weighted spacer. The harmonic balancer and flexplate are also different.

There is no before/after a certain serial number or production date, because this was a running change.

If the block casting number is C8VE (1968); C9VE (1969/70) or D1VE-6015-AB or AB1, or AB2 (1971-midyear 1979), there is no weighted spacer.
