For Mmaxd its seems like 4.88 gears and a gear vendors unit (turns his 5spd to a 10spd) would be the cats nuts. A good comparamise between fuel economy and pulling power. They would cost a pretty penny but he'd lose his arse in a trade on a diesel too.

How many miles are on the V-10 in question? I think it could use a little more break in time. I also think it is funny that almost every guy with a diesel has a tuner, cold air intake, exhaust etc..why not leave the big powerful diesel stock? It amazes me on what people expect out of a pisswhilly pickup truck.I pull a 12,000 pound boat with my 05 F-350 V-10 and I'm happy as a clam.Pulled it with a 7.3 before this truck, that did a fine job.Again what do you expect out of these vehicles.Maybe we all should look back a few years and really think about the turds we had to tow with then.

Hmmm sounds to me like DirtyDogOfTheDesert Has the special fix for all us FORD truck owners,,,,Buy a Chevy with a Duramax/Allison combo,,,Doesn't hardly ever shift out of overdrive with 13000 lbs in tow,,,,Better mileage loaded with the Chevy/Duramax then a V-10 Ford empty,,,and Gets over 20 mpg even with his foot in it when empty !!!

The FORCE must be with this truck,,,,or it's MAGIC !!

Maybe GM installed an Anti-Gravity machine !!

How can anyone not like this GM Product !!,,,,

Why would anyone Buy a Gas powered or any other brand of pickup truck !!

I think I will Go talk to my neighbor,,,,who works at a Chevy Dealer and has for yrs,( I think the Dealer is still in Business,,,Hope they did'nt get the AXE in the Bankruptcy that GM is going through !) and have him find me a 07'(approx yr) Chevy Duramax/Allison combo 2500/3500 truck so I can trade in my 06' F-350 six-O, S-cab,4x4, TS Trans, 3:73 LS 11,200 GVWR,,this truck has not given me any trouble what-so-ever in 44k miles,,what a misstake,,

I think I clearly made a Mistake, when choosing the Ford over the Chevy for my work truck,,,,,I do hope they can make my 9' Fisher plow lift more then 2" off the ground without the stock Chevy doing a nose dive,,that would sour the deal right there,,,,
USE THE FORCE LUKE !! to pick it up !!

Clearly the GM product is better,,and FORD should just Bow out while it is ahead in the pickup truck Game ! Gimme a Freakin Break !!! I just have trouble believing some of these statements !

True, you will take it in the rear on a trade in and still pay a hefty premium for the oil burner option.

A gear swap that will put the TQ in the RPM range you most likely tow in will help alot. Also...

Get an electric water pump Vs the belt driven one and ditch the stock fans for a high quality electric one. Those 2 mods alone have freed up 20HP on some trucks. Switch to synthetics for EVERYTHING if you have not already.

And if you really want to get exotic you can go to a methanol/water injection system from SNOW performance that kicks in under load to reduce or eliminate any ping under load to allow a more aggressive tune with regular gas.

One can also try a lighter weight but heavier duty drive shaft. Less rotating mass frees up HP. There are companies that make extreme duty Alloy ones and even CARBON FIBER ones that are tough enough to be used in NHRA funny cars. We're talking a DS that your 8 year old could carry around....

Food for thought...

All the aftermarket electric fans I've found for the SD are rated for 18klbs GVWR and thats with a diesel. I don't see you gaining much of anything with the electric pump either because it will suck some amps and load the alternator more. I've thought about the electric fan deal but I came to the conclusion its not worth it.
